The major quandary is who plays out of Renshaw or Agar. The pitch will determine that and at the moment it is a greentop.. more suited to pace.

Still have Head, Smith and Renshaw can bowl spin too. I’d go Renshaw

Tugga27 I read that comment from Cummins but he is not a selector. I think a bloke that can hit the speed gun at 150 is dangerous on any pitch. Does he reverse the ball as talk also that the pitch may become abrasive, tho from the above pic that looks a long way off.

You don't think Cummins has spoken to the selectors?
The side has already been picked.

This is from The Age

"A dry and patchy SCG wicket reminiscent of past generations is likely to see second spinner Ashton Agar play the third Test against South Africa ahead of West Australian tearaway Lance Morris.

Cummins was not particularly encouraging about the possibility of Morris making his debut despite the 24-year-old being clocked consistently at 150kph-plus this season.

“We’ll see. I don’t think it’s the WACA-type pace-bowling friendly wicket out there,” said Cummins."

From the HS

"Plans to unleash Lance ‘The Wild Thing’ Morris appear to have been cruelled by the feeling Australia may want the security of six specialist batsmen on a pitch where they think run-scoring could be trying."

I'm reading into this that Morris misses.
I hope not, but it sounds that way.

I added this to my original post;

'and captains dont always get the players they want. Mores the pity'.

Also hope that isn't the case as if he does not play here then doubtful he makes his Test debut this year in India or England either as CA will see him as most suited to our faster bouncier decks. Reading now that he does bowl reverse swing as he has been bowling it in the nets, so he may just be playing after all.

Lance ‘The Wild Thing’ Morris. I wonder if the man himself fancies being stuck with this moniker. Shaun Tait was fast and intimidating when he got his radar on the money which wasnt all that often due to his odd stooped action which also put too much of a strain on his body and ended his career prematurely. When he returned several years later he never added to his three Tests and mainly played international white ball. His moment in the sun came in the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean where he claimed 23 wickets.
I think the only true wild man of Australian bowling was Jeff Thomson.

Handscomb covers batting and second keeper for mine.. tho Inglis is the heir apparent to Carey.

Want the bad news. None as the first India Test starts same day as the shield resumes. Brilliant scheduling by CA. Dead set, they only care about their 'cash cow' the BBL. Well that is now being cut so our Test players will likely have some shield before the Tests next summer and after too.
Where did you see they are going to reduce the BBL? I think a good idea, it is 2 ( maybe 4) rounds too long in my view.

Not sure why Morris wouldnt play but Agar is.

Genuinely its a dead rubber let Morris show what he has. If he fails he gets some learnings to take back to Shield.
If he succeeds weve found a express paceman.

As for Agar hes kinda like Jadeja with less skills

Get your thinking but it’s not a dead rubber we need this win for the WTC.

Yep we win this we can go to India and play stress free cricket and just go for it who cares if we get whitewashed trying, see if we can’t win a series.

I’d hate going to India knowing we need certain results out of it to make the WTC. They’d play hard to keep us out of it so they don’t have to face us.

Yep and frankly this one is the one you can bank on more. Whilst we MIGHT win one in India it’s a lot harder than this series

Yikes.

I like Agar but this is unreal

Seriously, that would be a really bad piece selection. We have a fast bowler with suspect fitness, a spinner who is barely average of our 4 bowlers. They'll drop a fast bowler in better form than any fast bowler in world cricket.

I'd trust Head alot more to get wickets than I would Agar. To me, play Morris, let Hazelwood get fully fit for India, thus play Boland, and just have the one spinner in Lyon with back up from Head. Head doesn't have Lyon's skills but he can really give the ball a good rip. That is very dangerous on a pitch that is turning, as we found with head in Sri Lanka.

Oh well see you in the Ashes or next summer Boland. He wont play in India as he shouldn't.
Likely in India it'll be Cummins, Starc, Lyon, a 2nd spinner and Green. Cummins and Starc were terrific the way they utilized reverse swing in Pakistan.

Boland could be fast bowling version of Stuart MaGill.

If they were just gonna select a specialist bat at six, I’d rather Handscomb have gotten a role in a more familiar spot. That, and I also don’t see why Harris is in squad, or what he has done since selection in the squad to be leapfrogged by Renshaw?
