Australia vs India, 4th test at the SCG, Jan 3rd - 7th

There's such a thing as bowling "too straight" to certain players, e.g. you probably wouldn't attack the stumps to Steve Smith. Think we've operated to the wrong instructions a few times, both batting and bowling. Not sure whether that's down to the captain or the coaches.

That is true, but make them take a risk, bowl at the stumps and give your bowlers protection. We've bowled wide rubbish all series.

Rain saves SMarsh carreer, lock for ingland, didn’t get a chance to show us how good he is in the second innings

Glad he couldn't fluke his way to his usual 40 and out career saving rubbish though

I’ve gone in hard on the MCG pitch the last 2 years and deservedly so, but I’m beginning to understand why the Victorians have a chip on their shoulder in regards to Sydney.

I don’t think there has been a decent New Years test in god knows how long and since Warne and MacGill finished their careers, the pitch has just become a ******* flat road where scores of 500+ are the norm and despite what is being bandied around, the SCG pitch doesn’t even spin that much and is just a preconceived myth based on what it use to do much (much like the myth of the WACA pace in its latter years)

The SCG has largely gone under the radar and should at least be receiving as much criticism as the Boxing Day Test if not more. In fact the SCG has been diabolical for longer than the MCG by a country mile but because no attention is given to it by the media, it goes through to the keeper unscathed.

A quick look at the last couple of New Years tests paint a horrid picture yet the NSW pundits continue to bury their heads in their sands and pretend that the SCG test is one of the premier tests on the calendar.

The stats show that it’s either weather affected in Sydney or the pitch is just a ******* road with no balance between bat and ball. Only 2013 and 2014 I would give a pass mark for in the last decade and both of those were dead rubbers. No I know why you Victorian’s have your necks up over the Sydney Siders. They should lose the New Years Test.
Was just about to ask why the SCG seems to escape the scrutiny of other pitches ( mostly deserved). Is it just that it isn’t a drop in like those that are criticised ?

The Narrative will be he couldn’t show us how good he is because of the rain, bookmark iy

Hard to argue with much of that but the thing that gets my goat is our two biggest cricket venues have repeatedly produced sub standard pitches. Had it been Perth or Adelaide doing that you could be assured they would lost their test status.

The fact that both Sydney and Melbourne are below standard is almost meaningless as they are too big to be held to account.

In a just world, they would both be at risk of losing their tests to other venues but unless the ICC actually bans them, we all know nothing will ever change. CA has much to answer for in respect to the way they are managing the game

You watch him fluke a ton against SL and for Langer to moan about how good the spud is....never forget the fact he's averaged 18 in his last 10 tests!

LOL does Australia want anyone but India and England out here, at the conclusion of the 2021/22 summer England and India will have toured here in 8 of the last 12 summers.

Yeah Naaah.

Like most Aussie batsmen, he's suspect against the swinging ball and against spinners. SL will spin most of our guys out, including SMarsh

I'd be almost happy if Marsh fails against SL. At 34, can't we just move on! He's just not that good!

Doesn’t need to fluke a century, 25 will be enough

He's been ok at times. I think most people are overreacting just a bit but having said that, his last decent score was some time ago and he's 34. He's not the future and as we are rebuilding, then it makes sense to look at alternatives

Probably be his highest score in a dozen innings for Australia!

Lyon looks a better bat than this spud...evenHazelwood did!

My issue is Langer continually talks about form, and scoring runs....

Marsh's average was 40 and a bit after last year's Ashes...it's now 34...he's dropped 6 on that average in 12 months. That's how bad he has been lately. Move on, he's pretty ordinary. His brother is worse though (although he has merit in the ODI side)

$$$$$$$$$$$$

Would it kill us to maybe get the blackcaps out here for a 3 test series more often whilst they are going through a bit of a golden generation

Yep. That was pretty much my point. He's done bugger all for a while now and he's not really a part of our future test side. Time to bite the bullet and look at younger blokes

This is what we should have done this year. This was a year where we had 4 tests at home, why weren't we not give a few young guys a go. Why play Finch when say Renshaw could have played. (just an example). You get my point. We should have used this year to find batting depth, and now what depth have we found?

Happy new year everyone. Been overseas for the break and not much cricket coverage in the US. How are Australia going in the cricket ? :)

It worked a treat in the 2nd innings in Melbourne. Set the field accordingly.

It's amazing I tell you lol

Mind you it helps when Starc isn't bowling much!
