Political figures in commentary boxes are never a good mix. They try to pretend they know what they are talking about but just end up embarrassing themselves.

The only one that I can remember who was ok was Kiwi Prime Minister John Key. Seemed to be quite knowledgeable.

John Howard's history with cricket is quite extensive.

As for the match, the pitch largely appears lifeless. We've done well to at least keep them from getting away, but it says a lot when only Smith and Lyon are getting anything out of the pitch (and even then not all that much).

don't think lyon is the issue here, unless he's going to consistently bowl 88-90km/h and never ever throw it up a bit. which he is prone to. knocked them over earlier in the series.

fast bowler substitute fielder? haven't we learnt our lesson already with siddle?

Howard knew his stuff and was very good. Gillard was okay with her footy (not sure about cricket).

The most cringeworthy of all was of course Kevin Rudd, who sounded like he was literally reading of a cue card when was talking about "seeing the Test from 1977, when so-and-so got 85 and so-and-so took 5 for 43" during all his ABC stints.

Why do you have as your 12th man someone who can't field? Stuffs up a run out and then take comedic attempt at stopping a boundary…

He remained at very high 80s the entire day today.. Just didn't give the ball a chance to drop, float, dip, or most importantly, grip & spin..

It's like he goes in to every new game with zero memory how he has taken bags of wickets in the past- slow it down, loft the ball, and let it dip onto the batsman..

Maybe he has amnesia.. Every game Warne bangs on about how he's bowling too fast- and quite rightly so.

Will Cummins be allowed to duck across town and play for the Sydney Thunder tomorrow night at Spotless stadium?

I thought Hazelwood was supposed to be a consistent 140km/h+ bowler? His speeds this spell are the same as what people were shitcanning Siddle for. Still, bowling ok imo.

I do wonder about Hazlewood's fitness. He's sharp initially but then seems to slow down at length. The old ball doesn't help, either.
