Nothing below 85kmh in that over by Lyon.. Watch any other quality spinner around the world, and they will average well below that speed..
Not offies, 85 is about the norm

Leggies maybe but that's about right for offies as an average. The problem with Lyon is his lack of variation; every single friggin ball is within +/- 1 in this sort of mode.

If I had to guess why he bowls so fast & repetitive (after getting great results bowling much slower and giving balls more flight/dip), it's a confidence thing.
I don't think he genuinely backs himself to be a front line spinner, and regresses to more of a containment spinner.
I don't think he has the confidence to bowl slowly, when our over rate is always poor, and he feels like he needs to rush through the overs. Sometimes this is true, but it doesn't mean you need to release the ball any faster..
The guy just strikes me as a guy who's happy to just hold his place in the team, doesn't want to cause any issues, and doesn't want to try new things at the risk of getting slogged/poor economy rate, which would see his spot in question.

Guys isn't this pitch brilliant?

Expect huge crowds and huge ratings to tune into test cricket, hopefully we continue to produce pitches like this and don't even question how pathetic they are.

This is just so entertaining to watch...

its actually amazing how he manages to get it within that exact km.

suggests to me he is containing the amount of spin he is putting on the ball.

don't get it. He doesn't use the crease either. Even a muppet can look at him and go "he needs to vary his pace" but he just doesn't. He can't or doesn't want to?

Warne used to vary his pace by 5km, hard to think why Lyon doesn't listen to him.

He seems to get into a sort of mode where he is just happy to get through overs, not creating any presence or pressure just bowling like a bowling machine.

As much as you have a point, the reality is;

Lyon dropping Rahane, Watson/Haddin dropping Kohli, Smith dropping Rahul. The difference between 2-0 and 4-0.

Including his flippers, bouncers and zooters etc, he bowled with much more than 5kmh difference on occasions.. I just wish Lyon would grow a pair and try something different..
Even a dead obvious wrong-un would be better than his stock standard ball, every ball..

Warne has said on a few occasions that he's chatted to Lyon about his speed and variation, but for some reason, the guy just doesn't retain the advice (or chooses not to).

This is the reason I will forever be critical of him. He gets wickets bowling over the wicket outside off with slower deliveries enticing the drive. Then he reverts to bowling darts from around the wicket. He doesn't ****ing learn.
