India 5/342 and the day belongs to India.

A tad generous - they have lost Rahane, but Kohli is still there.

Projected India total for tomorrow:

Kohli goes out before lunch 400
Kohli goes after lunch 450-500
If Kholi is still there at lunch the match is a draw. Australia will need to bat again to set a target of around 350 and if they get over 450 then there just isn't going to be the time.

Even. Plus all of Saha, Ashwin and Bhuvi can all bat. Ashwin has test hundreds! Bhuvi is always good for 30+. Yadav can swing a few too. Need to get 3 wickets early especially Kholi

A good mix is whats best. The old characteristics of Australian grounds had that mix. The new Australian grounds over the last 5-6 years don't.

Then again maybe Warne, McGrath, Gillespie and co just made flat pitches look a lot more threatening than they actually were.

hear hear

Apparently the curator shaved a large amount of grass off the pitch before the 1st day as he was worried about last years result being too bowler friendly.

He obviously didn't factor in how disgraceful England were last Summer and that a quality Indian batting lineup would put in a much better showing.

probably wanted to guarantee Saturday but people simply won't turn up on the last day if it looks like a draw is the only possibility

People love to bash the Channel 9 commentary team, but I've been listening to ABC a lot at work lately and they talk just as much shit as the Channel 9 team. I mean ffs, they go off on random tangents for long periods where you would only know the score by checking online. It's not bad commentary, but it's not different to what Channel 9 get bagged for rigorously on here. There was a half hour debate on scones yesterday...
The problem with the Channel 9 discussion on pizzas was it sounded like it was being conducted by three half-tanked Western Sydney bogans at the Red Cow Hotel in Penrith.

Not by three allegedly professional cricket commentators.

I was there on the third (last) day of the Sydney test last year and I wouldn't say what I saw was anything to do with the state of the pitch.

Australia just tonked and lost quite a few wickets quickly as a result. England were just pathetic.

If this Test goes the way it is looking, then the curator has a lot to answer for. The last thing Test cricket needs is batting snore-fests.

I don't get Australia. They basically batted this game towards a draw by making 570 over practically 2 days. Batting for a day and the first session is where you want to be IMO. Make a steady 300 on the first day then if suitable have a swing the next morning to get to about 450.

The whole "Sydney vs Melbourne" thing going on in the commentary box has become played out and stale now, in my opinion.

Sydney has better beaches, better waterways, better weather, and better scenery.

It also has Parramatta Road.

So let's call it a tie and move on with the game at hand, shall we?

India would currently be odds on to win if we did that

Bit of a road this pitch, wouldn't you say?

Not as bad as Melbourne. There has still been a bit there. Not the curators fault that the spinners bowling has been very poor.

I want a competitive game mate, not a bore fest where its going to be hard to fit 4 innings in.

getting enough runs supersedes want for a competitive game. A pre 450 declaration/getting bowled out going the tonk puts us behind in the game

That's a good point, but I still believe that we batted for far too long

Only as good as the cream and jam

I hope they recommended clotted cream and blackberries

If anything we didn't bat long enough, but 550 is around the mark and we had a session to bowl at India on the 2nd day.

How good does the selection of Rahul look now?

It validates what the Indian selectors saw in him.

To dig in for that length of time given his age and inexperience, it is a significant achievement irrespective of what is said about the pitch.
