He doesn't even live here anymore.

Smitty is best at what he does, but then 'runner' is a pretty broad term.

Hill has a better burst than Smitty or Scully, IMO. Scully has all the numbers for distance covered & at speed, but he's played for a team that moves the ball forward with speed & so he gets (got) predictability & to run fast, a lot.

Some of our great wingmen of the past were Rodney Eade, Robert Dipierdomenico, Darrin Pritchard and Geoff Ablett and I think Isaac Smith has them covered.

Maybe one day Hawthorn supporters will recognise Isaac as one of the greatest outside players of all time: he has speed, stamina and a smart brain. He outruns taggers and kicks beautifully, apart from a couple of exceptions!

And he’s been great in Grand Finals (which is my way of judging greatness).

He should be due for his 8th straight All Australian wing in 2019.

I can't put Smith before Dipper and Pritchard and Ablett and many others, like JK Jnr. Smith is among those legends. They all brought something a little different.

Smith is however underrated by the AFL. I think he deserves to go pick 1 in his draft year if redone, ahead of Gaff, Parker, Heppell.

I was sold on Smitty from the pre-draft video of him tearing through the middle in a VFL game.

He's been my equal favourite with Burgoyne since 2013.

Might try to find that clip again!

*think it was 2010 VFL GF.

Just watched that clip & his run was brilliant

Can't wait for training reports to start. Hope springs eternal before the season starts!

I amvery interested in seeing when and how Scully returns to serious training. Hope the second operation has fixed his ankle problem. GWS medical/training staff have not been a strength of that club!

Not expecting him to have a huge impact early in the season, and I suspect we will be conservative with him. Many of our mature recruits have taken time to gel with the team, (Hale, Gibson, Lake, Jaeger), however the other Tom was good from his first match. Would be chuffed if his output/influence matches Dylan Shiel's at the pointy end of the season, if only for the media melts.

Birchall is the other player I'd like to see back in full training. The moving " x weeks away" from playing were a constant source of bemusement to me through this year. A fit Birchall will be a more than adequate replacement for Burton.

The whispers are that Scully is very happy with where his ankle is at since crossing, and what we are doing with him.

He & Birch ready for Rnd 1 is as good as 2x AA rebound/run-carry types injected into the side.

Oh yeah, then there's Winged God...

Blicavs is the best runner, followed closely by Smitty, Tom etc
The others have him for speed IMO, but he's a good example of my point; that 'runner' is a broad term for this discussion.

Tom Mitchell back on the track today aswell. What a gun, not due back for another fortnight.
Not surprising. He lives and breathes footy.
