I’m not one for criticising the cats. They are the best in the business.

But Jay Clark dropping the mental health card and needing extra resources for Bailey, and having that involved in trade value... is pretty shithouse and very stupid in my opinion.

Think we can all agree that it needs to stay out of the conversation. The Dogs did everything they could to placate him.
Yes some of the issues were outside his control but a lot of the issues he had absolutely were of his own doing.

Anyone that thinks the Dogs didn't go above and beyond in their due diligence in helping a young man going through mental health struggles is being deliberately obtuse.

Smith also tried this at the draft so interstate clubs over looked him, boy cries wolf

True.

No decent club could be looking seriously at a dud like Smith.
He's got talent no doubt. 2022 smith gets 2 top 10.picks. 2023 smith wasn't played on ball, looked and finished outside the top 10 in the club bnf and then he does a knee.

Tbh as a cats fan I'm not sure we need him and I'm not sure how he fits into the geelong lifestyle. I'd think he'd commute from Melbourne and not embrace geelong life

I think the Geelong lifestyle may suit Smith

Sam Power mentioned that Bazlenka is extremely marketable and ups his value....

Jay Clark isnt employed by the GFC.

Doggies will have to lump this one.

A word of advice to the dogs. Pick your game up, become a destination club, stop blaming other factors. This whole us against the world mantra isnt doing you any favours. Time for the board and club as a whole to work on the problem, which is, how do we become a power/destination club.

Dunkley and Bazlenka are 2 test cases you have to analyse.

Attack the problem, not the person.

We've missed the boat not spruiking Footscrays rockstar heroin lifestyle

Hang on? I didn't say that it wasn't possible? I even mentioned it here.

"AFL and AFLPA would step in. Sure, he lets a lot of his rights go if it gets to that point of ND or PSD i'm not disputing that and never said that was the case?"

My point was disputing a Dogs fan saying the Dogs should intentionally screw Smith by "redrafting him"
1. List managers are not that petty, especially Sam Power who knows he will have to deal with Geelong and Connors down the line.
2. AFL and AFLPA would absolutely step in and push for mediation, the work laws are already a tightrope to walk and it behooves them to make sure deals and movement are getting done so that injunctions are not filed against the League, there's a reason "Send him to the Draft" has basically become a meme at this point.
3. Connors as an agent would be furious with the Dogs for messing with his client intentionally, he has multiple players currently on the Dogs list. You think they want to damage that relationship?

How is any of that "unhinged"
So you’re saying if he puts himself in an open draft that openly states that he is there for any club to pick, the AFL would step in if the Dogs redrafted him?
That would give every little mumas boy draftee ammunition to get the AFL to step in if they are drafted somewhere they don’t want to go. As for the mental health, that’s on Geelong, they need to get a deal done that satisfies the Dogs and Smith won’t have to stress over ND or anything like that

They've gotten heads so big after that Bowes trade that they think they're kings of trade period. I guess there needs to be a new club/list manager that is hard to deal with after Dodoro has retired.

If things get down to the last day and AFL have to mediate I bet it'll be something Geelong fans will be furious over. Dogs will not be happy either because it'll be up them to trade up the picks. We've never had a AFL mediation yet in the trade period be blocking of deals and the Tippett trade. It's unsure how they do such things but I'm wildly guessing it's based on points as they seem to love it so. Something close to dogs asking offer.

I don't think it'll end up in ND/PSD territory.

If the Dogs refused to accept a first round pick, and instead USED a first round pick to redraft Smith, they’d be monumentally weakening themselves. Effectively leaving themselves two first rounders down for no reason other than to fk over Smith.

Questions would certainly be asked about why they would do all of that for a player who’s openly said he doesn’t wish to play for them anymore.

Dogs aren't going to redraft smith. The Dunkley trade dogs were in talks with other clubs to pick him up if a deal failed.

Think you missed my point, which was purely about Jay Clarks poor comment. But thank you for another negative post.

Surely Geelong would do
17,2025r2 for Smith, 2025r3.
Would Bulldogs accept that though.

I've thought all along (literally for the past 6 months before we knew what our 1st would be), that it would be a 1st and Future 2nd with nothing coming back.

It'll stay in a holding pattern until 7:29 next Wednesday, and then after all the 'trade day drama' he'll be traded for something like that once the deadline passes.

Same contrived sh*t every year.

Didn’t one of your fellow Cat fans say Smith is already living in his new house in Bellbrae? So no, he probably wouldn’t be commuting to Melbourne. Unless that Cat fan wasn’t telling the truth.

Brother the most unhinged shit said in this thread so far is you trying to claim a fair work breach for redrafting an open market player. It’s a draft. You agree to open market terms when you enter the draft. What are you smoking tonight.

They had Geelong spokesperson Jay Clark trying to claim the same thing last night. It’s embarrassing the pawns Geelong have in the media trying to interfere with the trade.

After reading this thread, we now have a good idea which Cats' poster called up TR and said not trading him to the Cats would be a human rights abuse....

The ****ing entitlement, lmao.
AFL also feed this sense of entitlement to be fair. For too long its been a sense of "If I nominate a club and im out of contract, you must accept any offer given no matter what"

AFL need to get in the face of the AFLPA and start to enforce not only contracts but being on a list. If Smith doesnt get to Geelong make him enter the PSD with a price on his head that Bulldogs can match and accept. If he refuses to play deregister him as a player and send him to a early retirement. He will have plenty of time to focus on his mental health when he isnt a AFL footballer
