Agree.

Becomes more than just salaries.

I heard a story that a Son Father Geelong players had his parents get built a Simmonds Home at cost price.

One player bought a home from board member and the same board member bought it back 2 years later. Then got traded to WA team. That team's president owns a building company and built a home at cost price. Then the stupid club front loaded his contract, and they demanded a trade for family reasons after 2 years.
I heard a certain WA club that wears purple paid a player using a wheel of cheese and then made him eat it in front of the whole club, and the kicker? they got the cheese for cost price

Smith to Geelong smells.

Cotton On as major sponsor and Smith being a paid employee has RedFlags on this.

AFL need to publish wages and third-party deals.

Smith has been with Cotton On plenty of time before Geelong had interest.
If there was any cohesion, the Dogs would have known about it and flagged it off.

But let’s sit here and pretend only one club gets incentives for players and not all 18.
How’s those Woodside shares? Any part time gigs with DP World going?
I’m sure Bankwest have had zero involvement in player events…all above board of course!

It's kind of funny reading the Trade thread on the Dogs board.

Up until even a few weeks ago, when they were still clinging to the belief he might stay, Smith was just a loveable rogue who did a few silly FIGJAM-y things but it was all in good fun - we love a bit of character and confidence at our club.

As soon as he was leaving - BOOM he became an arrogant tosspot who was a total culture cancer and dickhead who nobody liked.

And he’s a selfish campaigner who butchers the ball but also worth two firsts lol

Every club does this.

Smith deal smells like an off curry.

I think you're lying. Plenty been sick of him the whole year, for reasons stated as far back as April/May. He's been absent from the club aside from the bare minimum. Went to europe, failed to appear at events for kids & fans he was expected at. When asked if he was likely to attend, bulldogs players that did attend, scoffed and said don't expect it. He's posted nothing but distractions and veiled snipes at the club on instagram.

Despite it all he was invited to the B&F, but he's actually too much of a coward to show up. Instead announces he wants a trade to Geelong an hour before it starts, when he could have told the club that weeks ago. Why couldn't he wait until this morning? Only he knows. He's been checked out for a long time & it's just disgraceful behavior looking at it from the outside. I can't wait till he leaves and takes his circus with him.

The easiest thing is to do what a number of US sports do and make players submit their tax returns so all sources of income and deductions are reviewed.

Its one thing to rort the AFL, another to rort the ATO.

Haha the only people that will like this rubbish are Cats nuffies that desperately want to believe he’s some popular and beloved figure that they’re stealing.

These are just baseless assumptions without proof.
Pure copium for the fact lost can't fathom that there's a club that runs most aspects to a high level, inc. list management.

Please... It's the worst kept secret in the AFL and you know it is. Geelongs property deals have been just as bad as Carlton's brown paper bag scheme for years now the only difference is there hasn't been any rats go public with it yet.

Ling joked about his $1 pub. Its not a new thing.

As I said, if they submitted tax returns it would be far more open. But the AFL has zero interest in this. They want everything swept under the rug.

AFL loses money from these scandals so it's all hush hush unless someone takes it to egregious levels.

This latest Bailey Smith Cotton On rort would be pushing it very close.

Speaking completely balanced here, 15 and change will get it done at the end of the day. Dogs will posture, Cats will stand firm and to a certain extent I agree with both clubs position. Cats will get him one way or another. Oliver trade would make things interesting. But that’s a whole other ball game.

Smith can be a genuine gun but there are more than one asterisk against his potential, he’s a genuinely elite trainer and obviously elite self promoter. But he’s had issues off field, coming off an ACL and had a pretty notable dip in form in 22 and 23. Field kicking has always been his weakness so they need to get the run and carry game through him, and for the dogs Treloar and now Richards are probably more reliable.

We haven’t seen him in a dogs jumper in a year so it’s no great loss to our game plan.

The conjecture around cats paying peanuts for players and getting them for unders is there, but they are just playing the game and exploiting the AFLs absolutely ridiculous trade rules.

Cats aren’t an unfair or deluded trading partner, they aren’t Essendon under Dodo.

It gets done late and both clubs won’t be too upset. It’s really up to Bailey to kick on as honestly he’s probably on the precipice of either becoming the player he was slated to or just being a poster boy for cheap jocks.

Depends on what the change is. 15 and 35 would be the minimum you’d think, but Dogs won’t be happy.

I think the club is playing the role publicly it has to for negotiating purposes, angry, might do the PSD thing, etc, but they’d walk away satisfied with something like that, even if he’s worth more if he ever reaches his potential as an inside mid. They only ever offered him 2 years when other clubs were offering 5-6, they haven’t really tried to keep him. The Cats know that. They also know it’s unders if he gets it together on and off field. It’s all a bit of a dance.
