Trading Macrae and Smith for pick 7 in either trade is wild. Smith should be worth that alone (obv it won’t happen Geelong’s f+f1 is most likely)

what is the appeite for the dogs to keep mcrae and his sizable deal when dogs need to be in a position to offer a decent paid rise to their two best players next year.

so dogs will be happier if geelong gives a f1 to stkilda like the original trade?
Based on last year it seems dogs rather not focus on potentials for next season. They need to bring in midfield talent to replace aging players. In 2yrs it'll be without potentially Libba & Treloar as main midfield with Bont maybe needing more time forward. So Sanders, Richards, Gallagher, Garcia, Harmes, & maybe west. A low pick is what dogs want reportedly & 7 Satisfies that. The trade favors saints because 7 is obviously going to be in demand.

Cap is fine. We asked about Barrass and have met with Houston so there is space to bring someone in even if we kept Macrae.

Geelong have no obligation to give an out of contract player 2 first round picks.
They would absolutely walk him to the National Draft before doing that.
You mean regular draft? I believe players aren't able to set contract demands in that. Bailey would never put himself through that. Rather chance going to Tigers if that was his choice.

Luke Ball did IIRC. Played for $500k in his first year and base salary for the second.
Rules may have changed since then.

It's moot as Richmond have a truckload of cap and loads of early picks.

Richmond are not going to waste a first rounder in a deep draft on a guy who doesn’t want to be there.
They aren’t stupid.
We saw this happen with Luke Ball, no one grabbed him and he got all the way to the Pies pick with no one else picking him up as he only wanted to get to one place.

The Draft threat is just BF posters trying to act like a hostage situation whereas List Managers are far more mature and actually care about how it affects their job performance.

Either Dogs accept the deal (it’s not even a bad deal, this draft is deep) or they get nothing and spited themselves over a guy who isn’t even in their long term plans. Not to mention piss off the AFL, D’Orazio who has a tonne of clients, The Player Union etc etc.
Everything else being said is posturing from people who aren’t even ITK

You think if Cats demanded the same from dogs if they took an out of contract player like Smith for a top 10 pick? They asked and got Eagles to cough up a big deal for Kelly. I expect if Dogs say a top 10 pick is the deal that Cats will find a way to make it happen or come close.

This NEVER happens. We asked for that from the Eagles. Eagles just spammed us with the crappy picks they had. We will do the same to you when it comes to the crunch, less a future first rounder compared to TK.

That's the thing though. If it's not a top 10 pick then 16 and 2nds aren't going to work. It's more than likely their F1 will be involved. It's not like cats are going to fall to bottom 5 in 1 year. They're not the pies who lost a bunch of players to cap spending issues ran by the worst list manager ever or demons and their list management issues.

Yeah but TK was twice the player Bailey is. It's not a comparison. The equivalent is a first and second

I expect we will offer our first this year and our second next year.

If the Dogs don't bite we trade our second next year for a second this year. That makes our F1 untradeable.

The Dogs then have a take it or leave it offer of a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd for Smith.

The way we are handing out 1 year deals to players that people expected to retire, we are clearly anticipating a very weak draft hand this year.

Bailey Smith is not and has never been prime Tim Kelly, that comparison is objectively stupid lol

If the deal you’re referring to is Cats first + f2 for Smith, no doubt Dogs knock that back and send him to the draft. It’s impossible to swallow such a terrible deal for our club sending one of our key assets to a premiership competitor. Also his manager is the same as JUH’s so if we accept peanuts it sets a precedent.

No doubt a deal will be done and we won’t get his full value, but Cats f+f1 have to be involved or the more likely scenario of Cats trading up to satisfy Power.
