He wants to come play for the team he’s old man played for

So those two are lying?

He lives in Tourqay with his siblings and loves to surf, not to mention most of his mates play for the Cats
Why would he give that up to move to Carlton?

Carlton fans tried pushing it the other day and both Edmund and Twomey answered it on SEN this week.
Edmund said it’s rubbish and Twomey flat out said no.

The reason he’s not playing has nothing to do with form, he’s best 22 when fit and healthy.

Believe it or not having to drive an hour to work is pretty common practice. Blake Acres lives down in Geelong but plays for Carlton without issue, SDK could still head off for a surf after work whether he lives in Geelong or Melbourne.

SDK for Baz would be about right in terms of trade value pre knee. Think the Dogs would have to chuck in a sweetener to get a deal over the line involving those two though.

Did you read what I said, Twomey and Edmund said it’s not happening.
That’s a pretty good sign that it’s not happening.

This thread is about Baz. Let’s not sidetrack it.

If the deal you’re referring to is Cats first + f2 for Smith, no doubt Dogs knock that back and send him to the draft. It’s impossible to swallow such a terrible deal for our club sending one of our key assets to a premiership competitor. Also his manager is the same as JUH’s so if we accept peanuts it sets a precedent.

No doubt a deal will be done and we won’t get his full value, but Cats f+f1 have to be involved or the more likely scenario of Cats trading up to satisfy Power.
You'd turn down what you would consider 80c in the dollar, and instead lose him for absolutely nothing?

Makes enormous sense to me

Yeah but TK was twice the player Bailey is. It's not a comparison. The equivalent is a first and second
Geelong set the standard for what the bulldogs can expect to receive for Bailey Smith via the Tim Kelly trade. Two first rounders and two second rounders, now the bulldogs just need to ensure Geelong pays up.

It's the principle + collateral damage

Why should the Bulldogs let Geelong pull down their pants in front of a national audience ?
They'd be better served by either

a) making Geelong pay what the Bulldogs want

or

b) miss out altogether and Bailey can join the party atmosphere that is Punt Road Oval!!!!!

Geelong obviously have an interest in him otherwise they would not be trying to court him over. So instead of trying to get a player for the price of a Dominoes pizza. They should pay a steeper price (granted I do think $30 pizzas are a bit rich :p).

If an uncontracted dunkley was worth 2 picks in the 20s only there is there zero chance an uncontracted smith off an acl is getting pick 20ish this year and a possible top 10 pick next year. Zero.

Its certain that the cats will offer our 2024 r1 and a future 2nd. And certain that the dogs will ask for more steak knives.
The question is what the steak knives will be.
But it wont be a future 1st.

I must have missed all the times clubs do this and send players to the ND then.

Exactly. It comes down to tonight with how the trade will look. If Cats lose, they can probably get the trade done with one first and a couple seconds by trading up the draft board for pick 12-14.

If they win, their f1 is almost a guarantee to be involved as their first will be above pick 20 after academies, essentially making it a second round pick.

Fair point. His dad, Terry De Koning, actually played for the Bulldogs...

After this comment, I'm beginning to think you may not be the level headed, highly intelligent and incredibly on the ball List Manager you seem think you are

But it wont be a future 1st.
Dunkley went for 17, 21 and 35 with some later picks going back to Brisbane.

Geelong’s 1st and future 2nd isn’t close to that as it’s missing that extra early 20s pick. So if you don’t want to give up your F1, you’ll have to find that early 20s pick this year to get close to his value.

The picks for the Dunkley trade back and forth ended up to about 2000 making him equivalent to a top 5 pick. While it wasn't directly a top 5 pick which is why it was such a bad trade, points wise it was on the money. Your F1 can only be drawn on where you finish this season not next season that's why there's the risk cost that comes for a future pick.

Essentially with risk cost cats pick should be equivalent to 18 because of they're in a premiership window.

The only way Geelong can get away with using their first and second is if they pull off a miraculous trade with Gold Coast or some other club that needs draft points. I don’t think we should discredit that scenario happening.

If that doesn’t happen and it ends up being a direct trade with the Dogs, Geelong 1st+2nd doesn’t get the trade done.

Yeah, but imagine if you could get a $30 pizza for the price of a Domino's pizza?

The pizza has been known to have drug issues and he's torn part of his crust, but the ingredients are still there we hope.

Of course, we can't know for sure though.

But the Bulldogs will refuse to hand over the pizza when you're attempting to pay Dominoes prices (and yes I'm well aware of the knee + personal issues which does devalue the "price" but still!!).

In that scenario, the only team that loses is the Bulldogs.

We don't lose Smith because we never had him. We can just take those picks to the draft or look for another trade.

The Doggies lose a good player for absolutely nothing......they'd be the losers. If they want to intentionally hurt themselves purely to spite Geelong then so be it.

But your other trade won't be bailey so winner winner chicken dinner for the bulldogs!

If they want to pay a Dunkley like price for Smith then cats could try trade their first and future 2nd to suns for 12. Which is just enough to pay for Smith but pick 12 is in demand from pies for noble and future 1st because of their F/S coming in.
