If Hawks have spent some time genuinely wooing him, then maybe there's some willingness from Smith to go there as a Break Glass backup

But Tigers and Saints aren't going to stupid enough to waste space and money on a bloke who doesn't want to be there.

Hawks wouldn't have a pick in the National Draft, that will be going to Eagles for Barrass.

I doubt it, but each to there own opinion

At the PSD he would be 0 % chance of getting to his chosen club. ND he would be much more likely so he would do that.

Ahahaha oh hell no! You actually think that only one team does it….no no no wait you think ALL 18 TEAMS are just causally sitting around “NOT” meeting with contracted players? 😂

Please oh please explain to me what the hell were the Dogs doing meeting with Dan Houston (CONTRACTED BTW) just this past week?….now how could they be doing that? That would mean that they were meeting with a contracted player? Doing the very thing you’re demonising right?

Now would you say your club are a bunch of hypocrites if that is the case? Or….is Sam Power just being competent at his job and trying to lure a player who most likely wants to come Home to the club that he works for?

See how pointless that argument is? It’s totally irrelevant to Smith who is

A) Out of Contract
B) Says he doesn’t want to be at the Dogs
C) Will in due time say where he wants to go

He’s not being handcuffed and dragged from Whitten Oval

Come on bro, every team meets with contracted players all the time…you’re not actually that naive 😂
I know other teams flag interest in players, for instance Melbourne were flagging interest in Schache for two years, but it came through his manager. Bont gets interest from all clubs through to his manager, in case he ever considers leaving.
Scott lied and said he leaves these things up to Mackie, when he had actually met Smith and courted him directly. That’s the difference. That’s crossing the line.
Business deals planned two years out when a player is still under contract to another club through a club sponsor arrangement. The fact that Smith played so badly in 2023, could be attributed to no longer being committed to the club paying his salary, knowing he was going elsewhere. Unlike Dunkley who was committed to the Bulldogs in the year he left winning our B&F.
West Coast were aware that Barrass was attracting interest and it was known if it was a good offer they would look at trading him, as a rebuilding club.
Houston, the same, the club has said it would consider offers.
So Geelong has put in the work two years out, and now wants to pay under for the player that they have put two years of work into obtaining.
Do I think the AFL monitors this, no, do I think there is gathering interest in the Cotton On deal arrangements, yes. The Guardian flagged it a couple of weeks ago. The AFL will be forced to look at it this time to pretend they enforce integrity.

What will end up a live pick 19-20 just isn’t close to enough for Smith. He’s proven he’s worth significantly more than that.

The Cats having themselves drafted a vanilla low ceiling mid in Jhye Clark at pick 8 just a couple of years ago would fully appreciate the bird in the hand benefit with an established gun like Smith over speculative late first round draft picks.

Has the potential to end up a bit of a mess if the Cats are silly about it.

What's it matter where the pick ends up we will still have access to the same players.

Can we unban Celebrity 101! so he can address this as he has the inside word as Baz's physio/school mate/European holiday mate?
Bailey hanging out with his Hawthorn mates here....

Hang on a second? :openmouth:

Those are some awful funny looking Hawthorn players?

I think 15 and 35 will get the job done. Both clubs go away happy
15 and a future 2nd id say with some other meaningless late pick swaps in the dogs favour.

Would the Dogs accept F1 alone?

I know the Cats would be reluctant to give it up, but if the Dogs expect Geelong to fall next season, I wonder if they'd be willing to gamble/death-ride that it's a top ten pick - which would be close to doing the business on its own.
I'd probably take it but I can understand the Dogs not wanting to strengthen Geelong and death ride a pick while having nothing come back the other way in the meantime.

Man, there's talk of Kangas trying to do their future 1st for pick 9. This would be a horrible deal, worse than 15 straight up, basically regardless of where Geelong finish next year.

Would love this deal to get done early because the back forth posturing from all sides is going to be nauseating. Cats camp wanting him for nothing as he is OOC and done a knee while Dogs camp wanting two good 1st round picks.
If you believe in the AFL holding certain trades back until deadline for the 'drama' then there's nothing surer than this one being one of those.
