The people who called it out are sooks who get triggered if there is a chance someone gets called for racism, this includes you. Your default position is it doesn't exist and people are making it up and nothing sways you from that.

Chad challenged people - anyone, no-one specific - on criticism of Amarfio. Some people responded with their reasons and the debate went from there. See that's debate and involves mature people responding to the question. Some of the criticism of him is clearly bullshit imo. I don't agree he's done a poor job. I don't think its his role to manage the footy department, just to judge their results and provide what they need.
Incorrect. My default position is i have not seen it from members on this board with regards to BA and the default position should not be: any criticism towards him is because an element of racism. That is what was said. What Val wrote up above is correct.

Anyway, the thread has moved on and I have zero interest discussing it when you can't get the basics right. It's over. Back on topic.

Correct, he didn't call anyone out personally. He made a blanket statement that suggested that past and future criticisms of BA have a hint of racism attached. You can paint however you like but everyone read it's why several people called it out.

Raised a question, he didn't make an accusation. You need to go back to school and learn how grammer works and why its used. and some people responded with their criticisms based on whatever facts they had. See that's debate and involves mature people responding to the question not control freaks sooking about what people talk about.

Alrighty guys, I'm not going to go back on a whole rampage correcting/removing (certainly not erasing) some of the talk that has happened in here because talking stuff out generally works but let's move on from this topic of discussion. I think both sides have made their point. We're in a period of unimaginable positivity after a couple of poor years so let's take our cue from that. Nobody is counting the score, none of you have to like or agree with each other and you never win being a faceless entity assuming the mind of another faceless entity.

No, Chad said that was his suspician on the basis of no one he spoke to at the club having any of those criticisms. IE No one with any knowledge of the guy (or situation) that Chad spoke to had those criticisms. Chad wondered why his experience of reality is so different to the ideas outside the club about Amarfio, seems obvious really but a pack of whiney campaigners have come in acting as if they've been personally accused of stuff by Chad. You didn't read what Chad wrote, you read some of it and triggered your default unconscious response as usual. You bang on about me and my responses but you can't control your own, you should probably take up meditation and work on your self development.

Anyway the problems with the football department are the fault of Funky Carl who has never had a a word said about him since he left.

Since Amarfio has been here its been one crisis after another off the back of those earlier problems that he has been dealing with and as mentioned earlier while the worlds burns around us. Yet our shit on field performance is because of him? That's garbage and frankly if people are making that criticism it has no basis in fact and is racist. (Or the result of other biases cos of his success in other parts of the (spits the term out) "sport industry".)

I've just seen this. I'll leave it where I have then.

North approach Peter Jackson to steer Roos into the ‘Clarko’ era

North Melbourne have approached veteran club chief Peter Jackson to help oversee the rebuilding of the Kangaroos following Alastair Clarkson’s appointment as new senior coach.

North president Sonja Hood, who would not guarantee the future of current CEO Ben Amarfio in a series of interviews in recent days, has approached the former Essendon and Melbourne chief executive with a view to helping steer the club into the Clarkson era.

It is not known whether Jackson would be prepared to take on a full-time role at North, but the Roos will push Jackson to work in an advisory role in its potential search for a new CEO and football boss.

Jackson is considered by North as an ideal interim chief executive, but failing that a short-term consultant to the board as it implements the findings of the football restructure recommended by the Geoff Walsh review.

Amarfio was notably absent from the podium, but was in the room watching on, when the Roos unveiled Clarkson as coach last Friday, and did not play a key role in the recruitment of the four-time premiership coach.

With Clarkson officially taking on the role for at least the next five years from November 1, Hood has indicated a raft of changes to key personnel across football and, notably, recruiting. She did not rule out Walsh, a former North CEO, briefly returning in a consultancy role to help oversee the changes.

Jackson was previously installed by the AFL to oversee the rebuilding of the beleaguered Melbourne Football Club, a role he held from 2013 until 2019.

Inducted as an AFL Life Member in 2020 he was CEO of Essendon from 1996 until 2009 - a period that saw the Bombers’ most recent premiership in 2000. He has also taken on a series of other troubleshooting roles across the AFL. Those include consultancies at the Western Bulldogs and most recently conducted a review of the AFL’s Indigenous Advisory Board.

Clarkson conceded on Friday that he needed strong and experienced people around him to succeed in the new coaching job. He is expected to bring former Hawthorn colleague Todd Viney with him to North Melbourne in a coaching development role.
The Age contacted Hood and Jackson for comment.

We don't trust the source, but if this is true, this is absolutely huge news for us. Jackson is one of the best in the business at running clubs. I highly recommend this podcast, a great listen

IF Jackson does come, I wonder if the Walsh review has recommended a structure where we no longer have a CEO, but instead we split the CEO responsibilities into two separate positions of CFO and COO.

Wouldn't shock me if that ended up being the case, and would explain why Sonja has talked up Amarfio but hasn't specified the CEO role.

Not sure about splitting the CEO role. I think the club needs one. But with Ben, his strength is the commercial side, he hasn't run sports organizations, he's not a footy guy. So make him Chief Commercial Officer (if he wants it), and bring in someone like Jackson to run the club as we rebuild.

Because said poster jumps at shadows. If I picked up a glass of skim milk over a glass of choc milk ferbie would call me racist, bring up a obscure podcast and give a story about racism in rural Australia 30 years ago.

Ah jaysus…

Posted the question myself a page or two back.

I think we are acting on recommendations in the Walsh Report. Sonja is an inclusive leader who puts faith in those who she deems have expertise in areas that she does not. See the comments in the Noble departure presser to back that up. "When it comes to football, I tend to listen to the coach". Paraphrasing, but you get my point. ..I think it's a monty she is acting on recommendations from Walsh and my strong suspicion that one of those was regarding football expertise in the role of CEO. Just my gut, but.

We have 16 players on our list who are under 80kg and another 11 between 80 and 85. You might think oh it is only our 18 and 19 year olds that are under 80kg... no. Taylor is 22, 187cm.. 78kg. Scott 22, 186cm.. 77kg. Simpkin 24, 182cm... 77kg. Thomas 22, 189cm... 76kg. Stephenson 23, 188cm.. 75kg. Turner 26, 180cm... 71kg. Some of those in the 80-85kg are KPPs.
At the risk of repeating myself, I am certain that a lot of the listed weights are outdated. Is there anyone ITK who could confirm or deny this? Taylor, Scott and Sleevo are skinny for AFL players but they are around my height and weight and they'd look solid next to me. Ain't no way Jy, Kanye or TT are those weights. Jy and Turner are lightly framed but have a fair bit of muscle. TT was listed at 74kg the year before he was drafted and he is noticeably bigger now.

To be fair….this is one thing you’d like for her to be right about.

I'm curious; can you define what a "footy guy" is for me?

Is Sonja a footy guy?
Hasn't played, hasn't coached, wasn't an administrator, wasn't on club boards, didn't post on BF!

Yes he had ~4 years at the AFL on the broadcast side around 15 years ago, but my point is, he's a corporate guy, with little football background.

Take our coaching situation as a comparison:
We had Nobes, had years of experience as an administrator, Footy GM, List Management, etc. We thought with all that experience, he'd make a good coach. So we hired him, he learnt "on the job", and in the end we realised we were wrong and moved him on after less than 2 years.
We've now landed Clarko, one of the best coaches ever.
Similar with Ben. Has some good attributes, he's done some good things, also learnt "on the job" as a club CEO. But now we potentially have a chance to land one of the best CEO's in footy who already has the experience we need, he's already the finished product.
I'm all for bringing in people with the right experience who are going to make us better.

Hey, that was brilliant, thanks for sharing.

I'm a bit iffy about an * bloke, but he would be perfect for us right now. My take away is the length of time it's going to take to set the process and standards. Maybe 4 years before finals. We got to be patient.

NORTH Melbourne says former Melbourne chief executive Peter Jackson has been a valuable behind-the-scenes consultant for the club, but will not take on a formal role at Arden St.

Essendon and Demons chief executive Jackson helped out new president Sonja Hood in recent months, after being introduced by North Melbourne adviser and ex-Melbourne coach Paul Roos.

North Melbourne’s current chief executive Ben Amarfio continues in his role for the time being. But as the Herald Sun reported on Saturday, he is likely to move on at some stage in the future.

Hood sidestepped any ongoing commitment to Amarfio in her weekend press interviews, despite citing his role helping the club become debtfree as it continues to redevelop the Arden precinct.
Jackson has been a valuable sounding board for Hood and the North Melbourne board as they pursued new coach Alastair Clarkson with a single-minded focus.
While Amarfio’s role will remain a subject of discussion, Hood said on Monday night the chief executive had many significant projects to work on.
“I reached out to Peter Jackson on behalf of the club board before we started formal conversations with Alastair Clarkson and his manager some weeks ago,” Hood said.
“Peter was recommended to us by Paul Roos, and he has provided great counsel.
“As far as the CEO’s role is concerned, Ben Amarfio played a key role in securing Alastair Clarkson, and he will continue that work as we begin to assemble the team around Alastair.
“There are a number of other big ticket items on the club’s agenda – completing the latest stage of our $8m Arden St redevelopment, launching our Future Fund, securing the priority draft selection assistance package from the AFL, re-signing major partners, implementing the recommendations of the Geoff Walsh report, to name a few.
“Ben will play a key role in all of those projects.”

Not from the CEO we've had for less than three years tho.

Lack of footy knowledge from the people coming before that... sure.

Yes we though are here discussing Ben due to his apparent lack of footy knowledge. I have heard he will move into a position that focuses on his strengths and they're bloody good strengths fyi.

We've had for years staff wearing umpteen hats, that clearly has been recognised as an issue and we may now be looking at ensuring those people can excel at their jobs.

Yes we have been a rabble for many years and that looks like it is about to change.

Amarfio is definitely one of them, was more involved in the football side of things than most CEOs would be and that was in large part due to a lack of staff rather than over reach. Maybe there was over reach too, or bad communication, but I honestly think he is simply the type that challenges people and their performances (that's not to say he isn't personable to those under him) and that this caused a boatload of friction when we (he?) also brought in the clubwide rolling contract decision. A decision I still find odd.

The weights are the official weights clubs provide the AFL at the start of the season.

Some guys might be a tad higher or lower than their official weight (guys who have had long-term injuries might be way off) but for all of the players listed they are massively under where they need to be for their height and/or role.

Most of the gym work in-season is conditioning/management, you can't really bulk up during the season as it will impact performance on gameday.

You should be able to tell that these players look skinny without needing to look at stats. Players like TT and Stevo who often get hurt in physical contests is another sign they have inadequate conditioning to be able to compete physically and the opposition target them for this kind of treatment. It isn't just incompetence to leave players this vulnerable, it is cruel to allow players you care about to get flatlined physically because you have ill-prepared them for this level of competition.

Bummer. He would have been great for us in a more official capacity.
