They haven’t payed finals in a very long time yet are contending for a flag?

There is always 1 team that gets way over hyped in the off season. Looks like it’s the Blues turn in 2023.

Claiming North can have a top 4 season in 12 months time is worse than over hyped. It’s just delusional.

Especially considering they won’t have Ben McKay.

Any player who does not re-sign before season starts is a potential worry. Suns were very confident that Rankine stays and how that turned out. Compare that to Rowell and Anderson re-signing in the off-season. If Anderson waited, he would probably get a million per year offers from teams like Hawks.

Anything can happen. I would expect North have already put a great offer on the table for McKay. They got plenty of space in cap.

BTW, North in top 4 in 2 years is, IMO, a crazy prediction.

We haven’t put an offer as his management said to wait to season starts to begin talks

Negotiations will begin end of march

I dare say there's only one person on the planet who actually thinks it's a possibility.

Much like his priority pick embarrassment, I suspect he's in for another rude shock when they're closer to the bottom 4 than the top 4 in that time frame.

They are probably my most hated team but you can't be serious if you don't rate their list very highly. Bunch of quality players coming into their prime, zero excuses for the Blues not to at least finish top 6 and win a final.

This post would have been 100% accurate a year ago as well.

Maybe Ben is quite happy with the "effect", but his manager is (rightly) maximising his market value.
I am pretty sure managers, teams know what salaries best defenders across AFL command. North would be happy to offer that (and probably more) right now, no doubt in my mind. That Ben refused to talk to them right now opens the door. If he does not re-sign by bye, I would be worried.

North keen to talk to him but he doesn’t want to entertain them at the moment. Sounds ominous.

Reckon he will walk and some lucky club will get him for free by structuring his contract so North won’t challenge.

Who of the contending clubs could afford adding a band 1 sized contract to their salary cap ?
As for the lower rated clubs who could afford it, why would McKay jump from the frying pan into the fire !!
It’s a tricky one, maybe Geelong could offer some creative accountancy advice … 😉

Dogs. Dunkley, Hunter, JJ were all on or offered big contracts. A McKay, Busslinger, Darcy back line would hold us for a decade.

It will be a James Frawley band 1.

It’s a fascinating watch and I’m certainly concerned that he’s gone. What makes it particularly interesting is the compo and impending “super draft”.

On one hand North loses its best KPD prospect, on the other hand North adds 3 top 10 picks in the best draft since 2018.

Pros and cons.

Tough for anyone to say, but I thought there was another players increase coming shortly. With that, cap space should free up for a lot of clubs. With a backended 6 or 7 year deal, I wouldn’t be surprised if most clubs could find space. Geelong for example have less than a handful of players on contracts post 2025.

I didn’t claim anything.

However - no team will be top 4 in 12 months - unless you want to rank intra club games.

Maybe add “IMO” to your last statement. End of the day you don’t have any idea what he will do.

You don’t need to stick up for Ziebull’s wild claims. I know he doesn’t represent you all 😛

We dont need accounting advice.
We have a bunch of over 30s thats where our cap room is.
That said i think we will be targeting tdk instead of mckay anyway.
