Don't get why some are getting ansy in here.

If Ben wants to leave, he will leave. No club is matching unless they are at the other end of the table and the compensation would be less than a possible trade.

We wouldn't have that problem more than likely.

He hasn't signed an extension and is entering the last season of his deal, naturally there will be talk.

I daresay the first 5-6 rounds will determine his decision, if there's no major improvement, he will probably look to move on and play in a finals side, with Carlton being an obvious one. I wouldn't begrudge him that, honestly. He deserves to play finals footy, hopefully it is with us though...

No doubt he will demand a Band 1 style contract, as he was the leading intercept defender in the league last year.

Would he? I think Band1 would be 800pa .. I doubt that he gets paid that to be honest but if SalCap goes up , and aflpa get a new deal who knows.

Band 2 would be going down in dollars per year.

900+ is band one. If there's a new AFL team coming in and a player is offered that sort of money the AFL will probably throw 2x first rounders in compensation again.

Yeah.

Not sure why you quoted a closed range of 850-875, that's all.

Then you need to also include - time played in the forward line and games KOed early in the game.

Remove these games and he broke the all time average for intercept marks.
Happens to a lot of players throughout a season.

Across the season North conceded ~250 more inside 50's than the Blues, for example.

Really - how many games did Weitering play forward - or Lever or May or McGovern or Stewart? And how many intercept defenders were knock out twice before half time in 2022?

As for more entries - teams walked the footy into their forward line against us. We had 113 more goals kicked against us than the Blues, for example.

Not sure, just saying that it happens to lots of players. People don't look at midfielder averages across a season and put disclaimers about games that were cut short or times they were moved forward.

If you looked at amount of entries where McKay was in the D50 and took the average from that, similar to how they do one on one contest stats, that would be more enlightening.

Not sure what your statement about goals has to do with what we're talking about.

You keep saying a lot - can you name any?

The disclaimer was made by Gary Lyon - remove those games and McKay smashes the intercept marks record. So yeah - people do put disclaimers on.

Because the band one starting point is somewhere within that range and up.

I'd be surprised if the starting point is that high. Even 750+ might do it. But of course the AFL keep us guessing by not publishing clear parameters - wouldn't want to relinquish that discretionary wriggle room.

This is completely incorrect.

900k is not band one for every player. Nowhere near it.

As the salary ranking is floating based on the ranking of the 40th highest paid player in the comp, factoring in age weighting. The 41st player in the comp earns Band 2.

You get initially ranked from 1-800 based on $/year throughout the whole competition and then a weighted points system is added to your ranking based on the players age and players move up and down based on their age as a multiplier to their salary.

Given McKay is a RFA, in his first year of eligibility he gets the highest points coefficient.

Age has a massive bearing and is the equivalent of a few hundred K per season comparing a 29/30 year old to a 25 year old.

Band 1 may be as low as $600-$700k for a 25 year old, which may be the equivalent of $900k for a 29 year old.

Danniher earned Band 1 with $700k/year average as a 27 year old.

You don't think a lot of players get injured during the course of an AFL game and don't finish the game?

People are kidding themselves if North wouldn't get band 1 compo for McKay, especially if they finish bottom 2 again, no matter what money and contract terms he gets from another club..

It would be another one of those secret herb and spices 'priority pick' disguised as compo, much like Melbourne getting pick 3 for James Frawley.

If he leaves North (hopefully not) looking forward to the melts when NMFC gets band 1 compo :)

Wouldn't be surprised one iota

Hood has been brilliant and the club isn't in free fall. I think that you're reading too much of the media trolls.
Good luck to Hood in her cancer battle but she's easily the worst Prez in the league right now and every press release seems to just add to the list of embarrassments. Sounds like she's more interested in coming across as a real tough leader to the media than actually running the club successfully.

Do you get all your afl info from Kane Cornes?

She is turning this club around and you're completely off the mark in terms of "more interested in coming across as a real tough leader".

Some people will criticise her no matter what she does.

Turning the club around in what way? You've had one of the worst seasons and off seasons in history with scandal after scandal and Hood has just spouted out the same line of 'we'll support our people' no matter how vile the allegations are against them.

Even my lifelong North supporter friends are absolutely ashamed of their club after the last couple of years.
