gallanat effort by the dragons, but as you say, bitterly disappointing not to get the points from the position they were in during the second quarter when four goals up.Bitterly, bitterly disappointed we did not win, had their measure for 3 and half qtrs (as I predicted). But the lack of height down back / polish up forward meant they ran over the top of us (as I predicted). Haven't got any other tips correct however
Final Margin - 5 goals Goat - and they all came in the last 10 min. I saw you at the Hurst huddle, so no need to tell you how good the Dragons will be this year with a full list on the park. Fitzgerald, Borchard, Weekley, Walsh, Wilkinson to come in.... Meade, R Thornton, Reudin, Dickins, C Prest in the Reserves.
It was a great game. Our poor kicking at goal (5 O.O.B. and 4 not making the distance) cost us. Rosa and Bell to come in for Square, C Carter out - their depth is amazing
hate to say it ka but if condos was playing i think the tigers would have gone home with the pointsDifferent year - same result - Kyneton are pus.

weeksy was the difference, simple as that - 9.1

I know it is easy to be an armchair critic but I would just like to add my own comments as a long time Sandhurst supporter.
Watching this game I thought there is some real talent in the Sandhurst line up this year and if they make the finals (which they should) they could cause some real mischief. At one stage in the second quarter they almost broke the game open from Square. Where they were exposed was Tom Hartney playing centre half back and Jack Kennedy at full back. Now I am not knocking these players as both are fantastic clubmen and give body and soul for the dragons - but Bristow and Weeks were just too tall/strong for them which resulted in some easy goals for Square taking all the wind out of the dragon sails.
Tom Hartney should be on a half back flank where he plays his best football and Jack Kennedy in the back pocket which also suits him. Pending the return of Borchard it is worth giving Jake Wilkinson a go at full back and Sam McGee centre half back (or visa versa) so there is a bit of height in the backline - otherwise teams like South will also exploit a short defence on the QEO.
With Duscher at centre half forward and Matt Thorton at full forward Sandhurst is OK down the spine and will improve further when the likes of Borchard, Weekley & Fitzpatrick return. I would personally like to see James Cozens rest in the forward pocket when he comes out of the ruck as he can take a good mark in front of goals.
All in all the signs are really good - but let us get some height in the backline.
Agree, I think if Bateson loops that goal to Barnard st end the game was about gone for Square, they are not far away the dragons....
Flat gone, but love to see South play that brand of footy v E/hawk or Square, Stroobants excellent.
And a big to BO for calling Ben Duescher as the wrong name all night, lucky he only racked up around 40 touches.....
Now hoops you seem to be a very bitter man towards 3BO and your continual attacks are very, very petty!!
Do 3BO callers have to be given a team sheet to know who Sandhurst's best player is?THought I might come out of BF retirement to tell you how much of an absolute tosser you are hoops. 3BO were given a team sheet that had #32 as Jake Wilkinson so thats how they called it when the bloke wearing #32 gathered one of his 40 touches, Duescher wasn't even on the team sheet 3BO were given. But 3BO were still good enough to give Duescher the $50 Shamrock voucher
Now hoops you seem to be a very bitter man towards 3BO and your continual attacks are very, very petty, so here is a story that might help you ......I once went for a job as the CEO of BHP Billiton I obviously didn't get that job because i was just not good enough and no where near qualified..... I have since moved on and only bag out BHP when fuel prices go up..........actually that never happened .....sorry hoops I lied .....but I hope you can still take something out of the story and stop carrying on like a pathetic child..
All the best their sport.......oh yeah i noticed that the fresh had a boundary rider this week....hmmmm where did you get that idea, didn't see one at any of the earlier games you broadcast this year!!

Why do you bag BHP for fuel prices? Do you mean BP? Or do you mean when Iron Ore prices go up?????
Haha! thats probably why I didn't get the job!!
hehe, I am not attacking BO bloodhound, I actually listened to their coverage on Saturday and it was pretty good. I am just having a crack at them, well, because I can and people keep coming in. Fresh always have a boundry rider and they use him. Unlike the poor chap waving his arms for no result.....Ive certainly never aplied for a job at BO, (or Fresh for that matter) but I like to stick up for the little guy when its clear who dictates to who ij this town, eh bloodhound!!!
Now, to patch it up ala Brentmeister by finishing with a footy topic...
Top 5 in order will be
Golden Square
Eaglehawk
South Bendigo
Sandhurst
Maryborough.....
oh yeah and Goat, well done on your footy focus article, credit where its due, enjoyed it

Collins went a step further by saying Wodonga was presently investigating all its options and believed dumping the reserves competition from the Ovens and Murray league could be a solution if an AFL-VFL type affiliation could be arranged with a district league club.
Wodonga Saints would be the most likely marriage with the Bulldogs as they share the John Flower Oval.
“It’s only a personal view, but we can’t match the money district clubs are offering our reserve grade players so it makes sense to work together,” Collins said.

I found this interesting as I remember ealier discussions in this thread regarding Castlemaine and Maryboroughs relationships with their district clubs. I think the claim was made that district clubs offered money to Castlemaine's reserve players which (like Wodonga) the club could not match.
I am personally reserved about this 'affiliation' idea but in view of the problems the country clubs in the BFNL have in fielding competitive teams in all grades (ie Maryborough thirds), I have put this on the Bendigo FL Thread for the interest/comments of others.
Maineman what do you think?
So the idea is that Castlemaine would form the Senior team and the Senior team of a MCDFL club would be the 'Seconds?'
I can see merit in the idea but I think it would be difficult to implement as it would mean splitting training bases, home games etc....
I also would be amazed if any MCDFL clubs supported it.
One thing is for sure though something is going to have to happen and fast if Castlemaine is to survive as a BFL club.
Haven't won a game at any level for two weeks now and not looking like winning too many more for the rest of the year.
I would think that no MCDFL club would entertain this idea. Having watched Castlemaine a couple of times this year there seems to be a lack of committment from players across the board and it would appear that their policy of throwing money at players to keep them there and get them to come back has backfired with alot of their highly paid players looking disinterested. Castlemaines problems still go back to not trying to build a club and always looking for new recruits instead of looking after what they have. They have had good kids come through over the past few years who dont want to remain as they dont feel they get a go. They would be better off getting beaten and playing local juniors to give them exposure. In a side note i wouldnt think that too many Castlemaine Seconds from the past few years would command any money to go elsewhere. So the idea is that Castlemaine would form the Senior team and the Senior team of a MCDFL club would be the 'Seconds?'

I am not sure where a lot of that comes from to be honest. I wouldn't have thought committment had been an issue in the seniors and I can't think of anyone disinterested.
I'm not sure where the 'throwing money' comes from either as I think you will find Castlemaine pays much less money than most clubs.
They also have been playing plenty of local juniors in the firsts and seconds this year.
I'd love to hear you elaborate on these issues and perhaps explain the basis for your opinions?
On another note all the talk at training tonight was about how filthy the club is on the BFL tribunal after losing McMurtrie for a week over nothing and now Christmas getting 4 weeks for an offence he was only yellow carded for and should have been thrown out anyway.
What all country clubs need to remember like the BFL Board the Tribunal members all reside in Bendigo.I am not sure where a lot of that comes from to be honest. I wouldn't have thought committment had been an issue in the seniors and I can't think of anyone disinterested.

Christmas did kick a bloke didn't he?? 4 weeks is light if he was found guilty of kicking
