B: Wright - Tarrant - McDonald
HB: Atley - Thompson - Firitto
C: Higgins - Dal Santo - Wells
HF: Ziebell - Waite - Garner
F: Thomas - Petrie - Harvey
R: Goldstein - Cunnington - Swallow
I: Macmillan, Jacobs, Brown, Gibson

In the mix: Dumont, Anderson, Hansen, Turner, Nahas, Daw, Wood, Mullett, Black

The biggest boon for us this preseason is not the addition of Anderson but the following:

Preseasons into Brown, Garner, Turner, Dumont, Mullett, McDonald, Durdin, Neilsen, Vickers-Willis. The first six will be expecting to play plenty of football this year, and this depth will be very important for us. We will be hoping that a number of them kick on and take the next step.

A chance to recover and rebuild for Hansen, Wells, Dal Santo and Swallow (I expect Spitta to be a level above next year after the achllies recovery). These guys ready to go come round 1, 2016 will be a huge bonus and a fit and ready Spitz, Dal and Wells round out what should be one of the most competitive midfields in the competition.

Goldy, Cunners, Swallow, Dal Santo, Wells, Ziebell, Higgins, Harvey, Gibson, Macmillan.

Not sure Luke is best 22. Has a lot of improving to do it he's to reverse his second year blues.

Best 22 right now is tricky as some might have interruptions during the preseason. Hansen for example is definitely best 22 it he has a full preseason. Mullet too hasn't had a good preseason for a couple of years now. Tarrant doesn't play well with niggles so must stay fully fit.

I hope like hell Ben Brown finally has a good run at it this off season. We still don't know what his ceiling is IMO.

Let us face Launceston and pray.

Always hard to do this, I'm sure there will be come surprises both good and bad come next year, like Tarrant and Waite this year and Black on the flipside....

Tall defenders: Tarrant, Thompson, Hansen, Tippett, Nielson, Durdin
General defenders: Atley, MacMillan, Wright, Firrito, McDonald, Mullett, EVW
Rucks: Goldstein, Daw, Preuss
Mids: Cunnington, Ziebell, Dal Santo, Swallow, Wells, Jacobs, Gibson, Dumont, Fordham
Tall forwards: Petrie, Waite, Brown, Wood, Black
Gen forwards: Harvey, Higgins, Thomas, Anderson, Garner, Turner, Nahas

Early season I'm looking for speed, grunt and getting games into the likes of Daw, Dumont, McDonald and Anderson to see who grasps the opportunity. I honestly think Petrie is a better option as CHB than Thompson!

The depth is great and with the single alignment with Werribee this year I'd expect hot competition for spots. When you do a team like this it's easy to see why we're happy to let Basti go. I have no concerns about the age profile of the team because with the depth, FA and trades there will be plenty of ready made replacements. Interesting that ours, Hawks and Dockers teams were their oldest ever finals teams. With increased player movement I think this will be the norm moving forward. i.e. The draft has never been less important and you just hope you snag one out of four then trade/FA in the rest.

Hear ye yah, I reckon our greatest positive will be in the organic growth we SHOULD see in the list of players who were either hampered in 2015 due to a lack of a preseason or injury during the year. A few players will be like brand new recruits if they can get a clear run at this preseason to come. Looking forward to seeing who's up and about come the first NAB Challenge game, and to hearing the surprise in the voices of media "experts" as the players they consider no-names make an impact.

A fit, firing and hungry Wellsy would be a huge help as well.

Oh, and the full alignment with Werribee should assist no end.

No Anderson in the team? He's a Jedi Knight.
And no Harper. Are you crazy

I have been given this a bit of thought and as BTron mentioned, alot of the improvement potential lies with our younger players. I have a crack below but this is based on what I see as a real change in Scott and that I feel some decision on the way we train the likes of Atley and Harper need to be made now so they can spend the pre-season knowing how they will be played:

B: Wright Tarrant Thompson
HB: Harper/McDonald Hansen MacMillian
C: Wells Cunnington Jacobs
HF: Higgins Waite Ziebell
F: Harvey Petrie Garner
Foll: Goldstein Swallow Atley
I/C: Anderson Dal Santo Brown Thomas

I think Harper should be told, you are a defender.
Atley should be told, you are a midfield player.
I would prefer Dal, Thomas and Waite not be a part of the 22 but form and history warrants it. Thomas could fall off the perch next year as we see the greater value in the likes of Anderson, Garner and Turner putting on defensive pressure.

This side needs speed out of defence, more speed in the middle while maintaining defensive pressure in our forward line.

People who think Anderson won't play are delusional. Assuming he has an injury free pre season, Jed will be a certainty,
Why would we give up pick 15 for someone we don't plan to play??
Yep. Joyce mentioned this when we picked him up. Goes straight in if fit.

In for Turner who shoud take the year to focus on his body and becoming a capable midfielder.

Garner, Anderson, Thomas, Higgins and Harvey as the roaming forwards/flankers.

Sploosh.

It will be an interesting pre season for Garner.

How far away from getting midfield minutes is he?

I think if we get to a situation where we are rotating Higgins, Anderson, Garner through the midfield this whole "North are too slow" thing will start to disappear.

Put money on Werribee for the flag

Joyce has said this? Doesn't seem like something he'd say...
Not those exact words mentioned in that quoted post but re injuries and going into the team, yes he did. It was mentioned when he was interviewed on trade radio.

Joyce's words:

"We think if he can do a really solid preseason, which we think that every indication is that he can, he can really push to play a full season for us next year."

Yep. They haven't brought him in to play scrabble. If he.s fit he'll play.

I would expect we would rotate Garner, Anderson, Turner/Thomas and Higgins through the same spots. 1 Mid/2Forward/1Bench. When I say mid, I think sometimes it will be centre square, sometimes wing depending on the player.

This is bloody difficult but ill give it a crack. Presuming we go with the same structure as 2015 with the 3 key forwards and intercept marker down back. Perhaps only the 1 tagger, depending on match ups.

B: Wright - Tarrant - Firitto
HB: Atley - Thompson - Hansen
C: Andersen - Jacobs - Wells
HF: Ziebell - Waite - Higgins
F: Thomas - Petrie - Harvey
R: Goldstein - Cunnington - Swallow

E: Gibson, Turner, Mc Donald

However, we know that the best 22 isn't always selected due to injury or suspension. I think the older guys (besides boomer) might be managed so they are peaking at the end of 2016, guys such as Spud, NDS, Waite, Petrie, Wells. So I would to see games into; Turner, Daw, BMac, LMac, Mullet, Durdin, Dumont, Wood. Plenty of depth once again which is nothing but positive.
