Arjen, to your point on Wright. Now that has some fitness, he really isn't that slow. Take into account also that he has elite ability to read the play and intercept at key times (*EF), and his pace is a non issue. Ball travels faster being kicked 55 on the chest anyway.

In real terms what's the difference between being named on the ball and in the Centre? Also if we are playing with a hansen loose in defense does that mean one of the mids defends and he goes free? Or a mid goes to the bench, a defender comes on and Hansen plays loose?

Or are positions basically irrelevant now that players run all over the ground?

I think unless Hansen is in blistering form and fitness, we should think long and hard at how we set up the loose defender (if at all).

I rate Hansen as a weapon but he has never shown he can play to an adequate standard being injured/out of form. Actually, considering the shape of our list, we should be applying this rule as mandatory.

is everyone confident about next season? I am a little worried we may fall behind, i surely hope not though.

I have us 6-12, but missing the 8 potentially.

I have Pies, Cats, GWS coming into the 8 with Roos, Crows, Swans missing.

However, two caveats:
- we have proven even though I think we look disjointed on paper, we manage to put it together mid season and charge home.
- The Scott post surgery seems to be a more hardline, stronger character that hopefully makes tough calls over the pre-season. I think with our current game style and favoured players, we may go backwards, however, if we overhaul our strategy (such as Hansen loose man) and pick a quicker, less exposed group come round 1, I actually think we can go all the way.

B: Atley - Tarrant - Thompson
HB: Wells - Petrie - Macmillan
C: Higgins - Dal Santo - Harvey
HF: Ziebell - Waite - Garner
F: Turner - Brown - Thomas
R: Goldstein - Cunnington - Jacobs
I: Swallow - Anderson - McDonald - Harper

E: Dumont - Daw - Wright

I like this as well Arjen......swap Harvey and Anderson ( Jed plays because the club drafted him to fix a specific )

Wells out........cant rely on him if fit bonus ( Firrito , Hansen and Neilsen sharing time for the open position )

Thomson struggled in the role the club wanted him to play and failed defining year for Hunter. He plays but we have many lads earmarked to replace him.

Turner, I love the lad but pending on Harper's availability I'd sway to Harps ( but wanting to get Turner who is only 19 ? into the midfield group at Werribee ) We need this natural footballer into the guts of the game as soon as he is physically possible.....but not yet. The club needs to envisize this point to Turner, assure him he is the future of the club when Dal and Harvey are retired.

Brad McKenzie I hope gets more games this year......assuming he is on our list ( no talk of a new contract is there? )

The club went to the draft after some high end talent but failed........I'm wrapped we got a player that matches the Shinboner spirit in Anderson and we have 3 quality picks inside the top 30 this year.

On saying this the club needs (I think) to manage our older brigade Wells, Dal, Firrito, Petrie, Thompson to the extent they are rested through out the year giving some other players a chance into our system and the oppportunity to play their respective roles ......dare I risk to mention Harvey is this bracket ? No, obviously he is our smartest most creative player we have. Does the Duracell bunny will finally stop come the of the year? Who knows? Only Brad Scott I guess.

We have to go out hard from week 1...........2 years running its costed us arguably a top 4 finish come the end of the home and away season . This also give us a chance to rest players here and there and control our destiny earlier instead of going hard at the pointy end of the season.

Our best 22 should be played the 1st, 4 weeks of the season. Then its a process of management throughout to the last 2 games before the finals .....thats the way I would try to do it in 2016.

Wright Thompson Hansen
Atley Tarrant Wells
Jacobs Swallow Anderson
Harvey Petrie Higgins
Waite Brown Garner
Goldstein Cunnington Ziebull

I: Dal Santo, Turner, Firrito, L McDonald

E: MacMillan, Gibson, Thomas (lucky to be emergency)

Rationale:
Thomas - others will go past him and he likes to play for frees. We did well in finals with him as sub and he did little when he came on (we had the game won or lost).

Petrie - likes to work up the ground more than most and Brown and Waite are better deep targets.

Turner - bloke has the right attitude, big thing for me. Attitude trumps talent 99% of time. And Turner still has talent.

Garner - impressed me in last years finals series, esp the Sydney game.

Jacobs/Gibson - reckon we can play one but not both. Jacobs has more upside.

Wells and Atley - a bit of speed of half-back would be nice to provide the quick counter attack.

Anderson - I think this kid is in our best 22. He frees up Boomer to keep playing closer to goal in a way that slower mids don't.

Firrito - If Tippett can ever get his s* together, then Tippett replaces him. If only he had half the talent and aptitude of his brother.

You're going to need to explain why JMac isn't best 22?

That's your reasoning? ......

You've got Wells in his spot. Just say you don't rate/like him.

He's had a few injuries so I rate him less.
I see Wells spending less time in the midfield. Wells is 2013 Syd medallist and 2014 finals were good.

Sorry... Jamie :)

JMac will be the next captain or VC. His form in the 2nd half of the year was the best he's produced.

Really? Maybe it's not being able to see many games live but my perception is that he is good but a bit fragile with injuries.

Remember, being in WA I often only get to grade the Roos against West Coast and Freo. Nic Natanui's 4 posessions in the grand final was better than most Melbourne club's seasons.

After close to his best season, no chance Tippett takes Spuds role. He has signed another because Scott wants him to play 1s, not be a back up, otherwise we'd retire him.

And for others who don't have Anderson in best 22, of course he plays if fit. We didn't give up a first rounder for him to play for Werribee.
