I really like Cunningham as a small forward. I think Rose will play and be good for us this season too. They'd be my first two cabs off the rank of we get injuries in the small forward roles.

I always thought letting Mitchell go was a strategic move by us which not only gleaned a high draft pick but allowed us to bring a different mix to the centre square. They're talking up Jones playing more midfield minutes:

One of the reasons why losing Tom Mitchell may not be the worst thing for Sydney as it allows us to add pace to our mids.

Jones looks like a good choice to add some difference, plays like a raging bull, tough, fearless, pace, likes to create. I have rewatched a handful of 2016 late season/finals games and in a couple of finals Jones looked as good as he ever has, ready to step up and be a key player for us this year. An exciting mix with Heeney, Mills, Jones in lieu of Mitchell.
Another player who I liked the look of was Melican in the NEAFL GF against a very good GWS side. Not surprised now that he got another year on the rookie list. KPD stocks are suddenly looking much better with Talia, AJ, Melican & Maibaum on board.
talk about revisionism. rose was putrid whenever he got a chance last year. whether he took his so-called chances or not.

****ed if I know but I ****ing liked it! Go find out for yourself and post back here when you have detailswhat exactly was he doing besides nothing much?
I spoke to Dre recently at a music festival in Melbourne. I told him I was shattered that he left Sydney and he said he only got offered base player wages. Sydney were paying too much for their stars and couldn't afford to pay everyone. He said they will lose someone every year and this is the reason they lost Titch.
So sad we got rid of Spider.v2. Reckon he was a great role player & a decent kick.I didn't know the good Doctor was such a knowledgeable swans fan.
He was solid. I'm surprised Carlton got rid of him, he was their leading scorer in 2015 and his 2016 was level with Reid's career best year.So sad we got rid of Spider.v2. Reckon he was a great role player & a decent kick.

Righto, our fwd line has essentially been decimated for Round 1, 2017.
Rohan and Papely and Richards are out.
What is our forward structure going to look like?
Im thinking....
Shaun Edwards Kurt Tippett Sam Reid
Kieran Jack Lance Franklin Isaac Heeney
George Hewett off the bench to rotate through there. Variances could be Mcveigh to fwd for Edwards. Or Cunningham or Towers for Edwards. Is looking a bit makeshift to me. Never thought Id see the day where I thought we'd need Rohan back for the side to function properly.
All we need is someone that will go missing or get injured easily as a direct swap for Rohan.

Swans forward structure round 1
Hf. Space, Franklin (pushing up the ground) , Mcveigh drifting
F. Nothing, No target, puffed sinclair dropping marks
Only 11 best 22 players named so a fairly typical Swans start to the preseason.
Missing best 22 players - Naismith, Papley, Rohan, Grundy, Aliir, KJack, McVeigh, Buddy, Rampe.
This is a really good opportunity for fringe players to stake a claim as there are several R1 spots up for grabs. Despite letting Mitchell go, we are flush with mids, just add Heeney, Jones, Mills to the mix. By my reckoning we need one ruck (Cameron?), a couple of back flankers (Newman, O'Riordan, Edwards?), at least one small forward (Robinson, Florent, Ronke?)
I just hope that a few of these guys perform at a level that has them pencilled in for further assessment as we are seriously short on proven depth.
In brackets are the potential candidates for that position if chosen player is not up to scratch.
FB: Nick Smith (lock), Heath Grundy (lock), Harrison Marsh (Jeremy Laidler, Michael Talia, Alex Johnson?)
HB: Sir Dane of House Rampe (lock), So Nice They Named Him Twice (lock), Zak Jones (or Callum Mills)
C: Callum Mills (or Zak Jones), Kieren Jack (lock), Isaac Heeney (Please Horse make him wear lead in his boots so he can't leave this position)
R: Kurt Tippett (See: Naismith), Josh Kennedy (lock), Dan Hannebery (lock)
HF: Luke Parker (loves the goals), Buddy Franklin (lock), Sam Reid (through lack of other choice)
FF: Gary Rohan (lock), Sam Naismith (See: Below), Tom Papley (lock)
I/C: Jake Lloyd (lock), George Hewett (lock), and any one of Jarrad McVeigh, Jordan Foote, Jordan Dawson or Nic Newman (whoever performs best over rest of pre-season)
As for Tippett and Naismith, both are good ruck-man but Tippett literally goes MIA as a forward. Since he's still a better option than Sinclair, I say Tippett plays ruck, where he'll at least contribute, and Naismith can play forward. Because unlike Tippett, he actually seems to not really be scared of anything (including rebounding the ball out of defensive fifty like a 700-pound dinosaur). He'd give it a good crack just standing in the goal square using his height a la Sandilands in 2015. If we play Tippett forward we are doomed
1. Naismith is not a forward/ruck, he is a first ruck. He will never give you 40 goals/year. Tippett so far has given us 35, 34, 45 & 17. Last year was a bad year in front of the sticks for Tip. Agree he must do more this year.In brackets are the potential candidates for that position if chosen player is not up to scratch.

Just one question - why is McVeigh on the bench in your team in front of Newman, O'Riordon or Cunningham, given that these players can all play wing, half back and spend some time as mids, have more pace than McVeigh who has comprehensively failed in the last two grand finals.Edwards looks capable of holding Rohan's spot while he is out.
B: Smith - Grundy - Rampe
HB: Jones - Aliir - Lloyd
C: Hannebery - Kennedy - Mills
HF: Hewett - Reid - K Jack
F: Tippett - Franklin - Florent
R: Naismith - Parker - Heeney
INT: Edwards - McVeigh - Fox - Robinson
