I really like Cunningham as a small forward. I think Rose will play and be good for us this season too. They'd be my first two cabs off the rank of we get injuries in the small forward roles.

cunningham yes, rose no.

the former knows how to find it in the forward 50 and is an accurate set shot kick at goal. further, he simply isn't hard at enough at it to play in the midfield which is a shame as he has the pace we need.

One of the reasons why losing Tom Mitchell may not be the worst thing for Sydney as it allows us to add pace to our mids.

I always thought letting Mitchell go was a strategic move by us which not only gleaned a high draft pick but allowed us to bring a different mix to the centre square.

Jones looks like a good choice to add some difference, plays like a raging bull, tough, fearless, pace, likes to create. I have rewatched a handful of 2016 late season/finals games and in a couple of finals Jones looked as good as he ever has, ready to step up and be a key player for us this year. An exciting mix with Heeney, Mills, Jones in lieu of Mitchell.

Another player who I liked the look of was Melican in the NEAFL GF against a very good GWS side. Not surprised now that he got another year on the rookie list. KPD stocks are suddenly looking much better with Talia, AJ, Melican & Maibaum on board.

He was solid. I'm surprised Carlton got rid of him, he was their leading scorer in 2015 and his 2016 was level with Reid's career best year.

They certainly have worse players but his age counted against him.

I still think we overpaid for Buddy. Only positive is that Tippett's contract is almost up so that will be a bit of a relief.

Reid is a direct swap for Richards.
Jack for Papley.
All we need is someone that will go missing or get injured easily as a direct swap for Rohan.

Only 11 best 22 players named so a fairly typical Swans start to the preseason.

Missing best 22 players - Naismith, Papley, Rohan, Grundy, Aliir, KJack, McVeigh, Buddy, Rampe.

This is a really good opportunity for fringe players to stake a claim as there are several R1 spots up for grabs. Despite letting Mitchell go, we are flush with mids, just add Heeney, Jones, Mills to the mix. By my reckoning we need one ruck (Cameron?), a couple of back flankers (Newman, O'Riordan, Edwards?), at least one small forward (Robinson, Florent, Ronke?)

I just hope that a few of these guys perform at a level that has them pencilled in for further assessment as we are seriously short on proven depth.

If the intra form is any guide Robby Fox is going to be a good find. I like the form shown by Foote too. He was outstanding in the guts. His ability to find the ball & extract is first class. He took Heens on and they came out about even on the day.

Ronke was good up forward. In the first half so was Sam Murray. Fisher is another that played some time forward. Good player, strong, fast and good deliverer.

But for me Fox was on another level. Incredibly clever, goal hungry, elusive and smart. Add Florent to that mix and this could be a pretty potent line up. We might lack a key tall but the smaller brigade will more that make up for it.

As to where is Hayward, well I think we might need to send out a search party. He is wasn't training with the main group in early sessions and obviously still isn't. Can't see an injury, looks great, so don't have a clue what's going on. Would love to get a look at this kid's form. He looked exciting in the SANFL games I watched. Another Modra.

Because unlike Tippett, he actually seems to not really be scared of anything (including rebounding the ball out of defensive fifty like a 700-pound dinosaur). He'd give it a good crack just standing in the goal square using his height a la Sandilands in 2015. If we play Tippett forward we are doomed

1. Naismith is not a forward/ruck, he is a first ruck. He will never give you 40 goals/year. Tippett so far has given us 35, 34, 45 & 17. Last year was a bad year in front of the sticks for Tip. Agree he must do more this year.

I think we are well placed for small to medium forwards with this new crop. Aliir will most likely play round one.

I've already gone with Fox, Robinson, Edwards and Florent. Think McVeigh is needed experience.
