McGuiness. Edwards was a sensational player but McGuiness was far and away a genuine star of the competition. A premier goal kicking midfielder who led us in the early years. The votes show how many people never watched McGuiness and were relying on his post footy reputation.

Also McGuiness 2nd in 1991, 1992 and 1994 B & F was in a side that had the whose who of South Australian Football. So for 4 straight seasons he was easily regarded as a top 2 player at the Crows.

This is why democracy doesn’t work

Edwards was the safe vote because most people on here would have come from that generation. Its like how many people forget in their best ever 22s McGuiness and McDermott ever existed and dont even rate them enough to put them in the conversation. When those who watched them religiously knew how good they were.

Isn’t this best ever crow?
Surely Edward’s body of work puts him ahead even if they weren’t quite the same stature of player.
Otherwise Wayne carey should win this comp hands down.

No! McGuiness had six fine years as a crows player. Carey wasn't ever a great player at the crows. The criteria I was told was pound for pound the better player. Not body of work. McGuiness and Andrew Jarman were both better players than Edwards.

Have you seen Edward’s Bnf results up against some of our best ever players?
Top 5 in the crows for 8/9 years in some pretty good years.
Their goal kicking stats aren’t too far off each other either.

My View isn't saying Edwards was a bad player. He is in my top 10 list of all time Crows, McGuiness isn't. But the criteria is supposed to be different. If this is body of work we may as well just post out top 10s and be done with it.

It’s best ever crows players.
Hence why carey doesn’t make it, the same reason why I don’t think McGuinness makes it, you can’t be best ever crows playing 113 games.

Some of us are applying different criteria.

I would have Edwards in our best ever 22 but Mcaguiness just missing out.

Edwards longevity gave him the nod for me.

Close call though.

Ahh so I see. So this should just be a rating game of those who played over 250 games. If body of work is all that counts. Here I am thinking this is pitting player against player on raw football ability. Because sure as shit, a 121 game player and another 118 game player had a much bigger impact than Edwards. Cant wait to see how you justify you voting Edwards against these players. Bet you wont. So in other words, you will be an automatic hypocrite. .

I dont think you can penalise McGuiness for longevity. He played 5 sensational years of AFL footy for footscray before the Crows existed where he played another great 6 years. So that should be taken into account. McGuiness was a genuine star of the AFL competition not just at the Crows. Edwards was highly rated in the competition but never regarded the star McGuiness was. This is the unfair part. If we post on longevity you automatically rule out some of the greatest players to ever pull on a crows Guernsey just because they didnt play 250 plus games.

You’ve jumped the shark, I think you’ve misunderstood the thread.

So why isn’t carey in the conversation he played alright at north.

You can be as a b&f and 2xAA as a crow against someone that achieved neither
Yep and it’s subjective but as far as I’m aware it’s basically contribution to the afc,
“best ever crows player” is in the title.
You can throw results around all day as you can with Edwards
300 game player and dual premiership player vs someone that achieved neither.
