A very nice wide, low shot of Wingard shooting for goal at AO last year

Nice photo.

It makes you realise we overheap the praise on footballers for kicking goals from so-called "impossible angles" when they're 30m/40m out on the boundary line. Way too many average goals are given 'goal of the round' purely because they were kicked from the boundary line and the commentator screamed as though it was a miracle.

The angle for Wingard is narrowed in the shot above, but he still has a view of about 50% of the goal face. So when Eddie Betts snaps one from a similar spot, we should probably be more discerning about what he did to create the scoring opportunity than go coco-bananas over a slightly difficult snap shot.

Amazing mark by Chris Tarrant in the wet. One of the best speckies I've ever seen. Huge leap, extra lift and serious hang time. The degree of difficulty was off the charts. He took a 25m-30m run up and had to reach out forwards to catch the wet ball with Demon defenders grabbing him, before he fell to ground face first, flipped 360' and landed on his back. Unbelievable that he held on to the footy.

This poster is correct^^^

It was the 'real' mark of the year in 2011… It was better than Gary Moorcroft's mark.

A chest mark should never be Mark of the year.

No matter how high the leap.
