Two of the most skillful players to ever play the game

Pretty amazing effort considering the times and what a great legacy he has left. I didn't like him as a layer but full respect

He was everything that’s good about our game as a player. What was there not to like?

High marking, fast and skilful, evasive, could kick goals from anywhere and had a bit of mongrel about him.

What's not to like?...as a kid, it was the mongrel and the fact he always killed the crows when we played them...oh yeah, and Lockett too

Sometimes you’ve just gotta take the blinkers off and appreciate the game for what it is in all it’s magnificence.

#27 North was one of my favourites growing up. I bloody loved him. Pre 1980 probably my fave non Tiger.

And they want equal pay because they say they do exactly what the men do...

It makes a mockery of the sport where you need to be athletic and fit to play also dosent seem like it takes much to play for a women’s team all you need is a bit of footballing ability and your’re in.

That's the old STFA Ground at Cornelian Bay in Hobart. Still there beside the Brooker Highway as an open playing field just opposite the Tasmanian Hockey Centre.
Pre-dated the TCA Ground and North Hobart Oval in use as a football ground.
STFA was one of the earlier names for what would become the TFL.

Nice pics. Got any more Tassie ones? Was a Clarence fan back in the day when I lived there...

Hobart prepare to take the field in the 1980 Winfield Statewide Cup Final at North Hobart against Clarence (which they later won).
This tournament occurred only once and was seen as getting the ball rolling towards a Statewide League which happened six years later.
The ill-fated Letitia Street Stand stands in the left forward pocket.

TFL Grand Final day at North Hobart was always an incredible atmosphere of passion, venom and noise.
The big crowd was always right on top of you.

Interesting to see the VFL scores on the scoreboard too.

Also, I'm pretty sure I was at that 1996 GF too, but in the diagonally opposite pocket, assuming there was a grandstand there too. I haven't been back to the ground in about twenty years, probably seeing North Launceston win the '98 flag there would have been the last time
