stats are incredibly overrated. I missed the saints match on the weekend due to work, read a few reviews saying Jack Steven was BOG by a mile with 25 touches and 3 goals. I was pretty skeptical - then I saw the game. Haven't seen him play a better one.

He actually had 28 contested disposals that day...

Patrick Dangerfield right now with some minutes left has amassed 46 disposals, 12 marks, 3 tackles, 2 goals, 22 contested possessions, 12 clearances at 84% efficiency.

Has there ever been a better single game by a midfielder?

It was a pretty good game tbh, but I'd rate it higher if he had, say, 29 kicks, 18 handball receives, 9 tackles, only 10 clearances BUT 4 goals 2, or 26 contested, 16 inside 50s, 1 goal BUT 6 hit-outs to advantage.

One of the best I can remember for sure. I went to the WAFL grandy in 2010, Andrew Krakouer had 42 disposals and 4 goals, the last goal was the match winner with a couple of seconds left on the clock. I don't think i'll ever see a better performance in any level of footy tbh.

I saw Matthews play in person. He was a champion. One of the best two players I've seen. And a thug of a footballer to boot. Not sure why on earth you'd think these two things are mutually exclusive.

I don't have a single standout but this is one among a few. Judd against the lions, Kouta in 2000 against north i think it was, Stevie J in 2011 from memory and not a midfielders game but the day carey went psycho and had 30+ touches and kicked 10+.
