Anyone happen to see a little bit of Sam Weideman on the weekend?
Clunked seven real nice marks, some wonky kicking robbed him a little bit, windy night here in Melbourne... still snagged four lovely sausages.

I'm expecting some pleasant things from Sam Weideman in 2022, very pleasant.
... just curious if anyone happen to see a little bit of Sam Weideman last night?

Seriously this time. I was sure he was named in the team...

This thread is three years old and we can rule out a few as not being young anymore.
24yo is prime, definitely not young anymore.

Curnow is 25 ❌
Hipwood is 24❌
Naughton is 22, he still counts ✅
McKay is 24❌
King brother are 21, they count✅✅
Larkey is nearly 24 but we'll count him❗

So we're left with a pretty small list. Who else can be added though? Gotta be 23 or under.

No, 25-26 is prime for midfielders usually, most key forwards dont hit their peak till they're 28.

JUH, Thilthorpe, McDonald could be added if they perform well this year

Oscar Allen was going fairly well but fell by the wayside a little bit last year.

Everyone is different. But 24 is entering prime for key forwards. We're not talking peak, just entering their prime. But 24 certainly isn't young for any player.
No it's not, you should know.

There's a big difference tbh, alot of midfielders hit their prime at 24-25, key forwards usually hit their prime later in their careers, some earlier than that but it takes longer for a taller player to develop.

Most key forwards definitely do enter their prime by 24.

Kennedy kicked 59 goals in a season at 23.
J Riewoldt kicked 78 at 21.
Roughead 75 at 21.
Buddy 113 at 21.
Walker 63 at 22.
Cameron 62 at 19.
Mckay 58 at 23.
Hawkins 62 at 24.
Darling 52 at 20
Lynch 66 at 23

There are exceptions like Taberner and Dixon who were slower burns, but it is rare.

Alot of generational talent.

A fair amount of young or younger key forwards nowadays are slow burns, both through injury or what not.

Hawkins peak footy has been as an old man that's a big part of my point, 62 goals now is unreal, 62 goals when he was 23-24 wasn't nothing to scoff at but like it wasn't a big wow!

Buddy won the Coleman with 69 goals that year.

I think you can rule our Curnow, Hipwood, Mckay and the King brothers for 'various reasons'

Which only leaves Naughton as the clear number 1.

He'll clearly have kicked the most behinds of that group by years end.
Probably have the most contested marks i50 of the lot in fairness to you blokes, but jeez - he needs to sort that horrid kicking routine out. He could be anything if he gets it right, I hope he does otherwise he may soon find JUH to be the primary target.
