I have a random question that I think belongs in this thread. "the cricket thread" doesn't show up for me on the main West Coast board anymore, making me think I might have accidentally hid it or something. Does anyone know how to undo this?

Can also happen if you have the OP on ignore...

CA withdraws from scheduled ODIs against Afghanistan in March

In consultation with the Aus government they've pulled out of the Afghanistan tour due to the Taliban putting further restrictions on women's education over there.

Will be interesting to see what this means for Afghanistan's future, they could be going down a similar path to South Africa when they were shunned for apartheid

ICC rules are that you have to have a men's and women's team so Afghanistan will be kicked out sooner or later.

It's such a sad story, the rise of Afghanistan had been one of the absolute best stories of international cricket in the past decade and it's all been destroyed so quickly.

Yes, they really were a feel-good story and have produced some fantastic players but unfortunately the Stone Age cretins are back running the country. The Taliban actually have moderated somewhat by allowing cricket to be played at all in the country (and a number of their most high-profile players are clean-shaven), but there is no bloody way they will ever allow women to play cricket in Afghanistan, nor could I see them allowing a team of female Afghani refugees and ex-pats to represent Afghanistan.

The ACB have tried to claim that it’s a cultural issue and that the ICC and western countries need to respect that females are just not drawn to sport in Afghanistan like they are in other countries, but stuff that. Muslim-majority countries (some with pretty conservative governments or elements within their governments) like Pakistan, Bangladesh and the UAE have women’s teams. Girls and women don’t play in Afghanistan because they know that their lives and the lives of their family will be at risk.

I wonder if someone will try a rebel tour of Afghanistan like some did in apartheid South Africa
Yeah nah. Afghanistan cricket would need to be flush with cash for a start. And number two, who'd wanna go to Afghanistan without the security and oversight offered by your national cricket board? (do teams even tour Afghanistan?? our series was scheduled for the UAE)

United Arab Emirates is their home like it was for Pakistan last decade.

I did mean a series "against" Afghanistan, not necessarily "in" Afghanistan. Probably could have worded it better.

There isn't any money in it though.

Rashid Khan sounds like he isn't coming back to the BBL and with the other options now available (RSA league and UAE League) don't blame him in the slightest.

Australia will forfeit this series under what is right and just but they won't have the stones to forfeit in the 50 over WC in India (because heaven forbid we actually make a decision that is sacrificing something).
