My suggestion is Frawley for Stringer, straight swap. Dogs desperately need a solid fullback and Stringer would be great for us up forward, pinch hitting in the midfield.

If we had to throw in Vickery and pay half his salary, Dogs need talls, I'd happily throw him in too.

Thoughts?

Fair trade but don't Frawley would be keen

I’d be surprised if we delisted Vickery this season. If you look at the players we’ve recruited from other clubs, none of them were particularly good in their first season. Hale was in and out of the team, Gibbo was injured a lot, Burgoyne was serviceable but not fantastic. Even Lake took a while to fit in, while Frawley was terrible up and till the Grand Final in 15.

Given all the other issues going on in Vickery’s life this year, I’d still back him to come good next year if he’s sorted those out. It really didn’t help him that we played abysmally while he was settling in and then well when he may have come back in. Given that Cegs is still an unknown next year, Vickery offers much more than any other back up ruck we can find.

Vickery's confidence was shot, no idea what happened but it was most obvious to me in the Port game his legs were literally shaking when lining up for goal

There is a big group of them that are partying and he is most likely the ring leader but if you remember we handled Buddy Franklin for a decade and he was up to more partying than any of us will EVER know.

The point I am making is he is 23 years old and I have seen glimpses of Gary Ablett Snr at times with his body shape and explosiveness and sometimes identifying a flawed genious can pay massive dividends.

In saying that it can also end up in a big mess like the Dayle Garlett situation as well so it's buyer beware 100%
This partying stuff isn't the issue with Stringer. He has some personal issues but that's not it.

At his best he can absolutely play a similar role and be similarly effective as Dangerfield and Martin when they play forward. And he could add midfield to his bow. At the very least he is an explosive and dangerous matchwinning forward whose best footy should certainly be ahead of him.

I hate that Geelong are the front runner for him.

Why are we trying to decide between Brand and Frawley? Having both in the 22 would be fantastic.

It's not like we have a surplus of key backs.

Think they would be great in the same team as well, Brand really improved as the year went on. They compliment each other perfectly in my opinion. Frawley is better on the leading forward and one on one, due to his strength and speed. Brand is much better in the air killing the high ball and marking.

Would love a back six of Stratton, Frawley, Hardwick, Sicily, Brand and Birchall to start the season, with Burton moved to wing/half forward.

Any chance hopper did a schache like sign and trade deal and #hopperisthetarget? Hawthorn-like quality to turn it on in finals.

Otherwise if shiel can keep his body right would love him next year, looked great before the injury

Shiel won't have a long career, I think he has a recurring issue with his shoulder where sublaxate in games quite frequently.

We wont get stringer, or even have a chanc to get him. We have very little to work with this offseason with bargaining chips. If we land any trades they will be for low rated players with potential who are sitting on the outside of clubs best 22. We wont land any A graders this offseason. We will acquire players with potential and gear our self for next off season.

That Mitchell lad went ok this year ;)

But you're right, it normally takes a while to get into the Hawthorn way & work out how your team mates run, react etc etc.

Yes, there is a chance...

Wouldn't want stinger or motlop, both have a attitude problem and appear lazy with their application and desire to be great.

We don't need another Vickery..

Agree with the faults you have listed but they do actually have talent and good football in them unlike Tyrone.
i just feel with where we are at it probably better we avoid getting players with talent but application/attitude problems into the club as we do have a young group coming through so i rather not have these types around influencing them.
