Opinion Bloods Culture - myth ?

I have never said we had lost our Bloods Culture, it was Patrick Smith. I have questioned quite a few efforts in the game and I will continue to as long as it hurts. I will not take the soft attitude of some and that is one of the problems being away from the heartland. I have been proved right about Jetta and McVeighs lack of a left foot. Robbie im not blaming a few , it was a team thing. Maybe like 06 we went in too confident, but not to fight back , or fly the flag when things happened to our players , that's not on.

There's 2 heartlands now for the Swans, Bedford. Has been for many many years now.

You play this sport for one reason and that reason is to COMPETE. We did not COMPETE on Saturday and all 22 players should question themselves on their efforts to COMPETE and if they could have given anymore in their efforts to COMPETE. If they all answered in the affirmative this Board maybe still commiserating a missed opportunity as it still may have not been good enough but the pride we have had for these players because of the very cornerstone of what they have built this culture on would have eased our burden.

I hope it burns in their guts like an ulcer doused in battery acid until they come out and redeem themselves by winning the Premiership next year and doing a Geelong and making a pact to never be beaten again by that rotten scum ridden pack of racist snipers. Simple fact is we are too ******* nice and need to get nasty and not only stampede this competition with our talent but by being ruthless ******* p*****.

Anyone who cries Knee Jerk or Harden up just respect the fact what this game is about and what it actually means to some people on here.

Mine was a general statement, not only from this thread but this board in response to the match. Not aimed at you or anyone in particular.

Yes I didn't like the fact we didn't attempt to fight back after quarter time, half time or even once the game was gone early completely in the third. No fight, no flying the flag, no effort - nothing. That's what has me angry and pissed off. That's at the feet of the 22 players plus the coaching staff who lined up on Saturday - not a few popular target from this board.

We fail in a massive way a club we rebound as a club or its all for nothing or its just bound to keep happening over and over and over again.

... but I'm not writing off careers, changing captains...

The biggest failure was a failure of leadership.
The very same failure we had at the start of the season.
Horse shoulders much of the blame, as he should. It achieves nothing for him to step aside.
On the other hand, the captains and the rest of the leadership group have to take responsibility. If there are others willing to step up, then the right thing to do is for them to step aside.

OK if the leadership group of Jarrad McVeigh, Kieren Jack, Adam Goodes, Ted Richards, Nick Smith, Rhyce Shaw, Josh Kennedy Ben McGlynn and Ryan O’Keefe stand aside who from Saturday take their places??? Others that failed on the day, reserves and or untried rookies?? Not a simple matter

Its a false flag to chase to throw the leadership group out when it was a team issue as a whole, not down to a small group.

We don't become a culture less rabble in 3hrs of football.

As an outsider, I'd say the Bloods culture is a myth in the same way Shinboner spirit is a myth.

Swans don't have a culture problem, but just like North back in the 90s when they used to get talked up, nor do they have a mythical spirit/culture that makes them try harder than other clubs.

Just like Cats and Hawks recently and North back in the 90s, Swans are just a well led club who are hard to beat. Big defeats still happen occassionally but it's rare.

That's pretty much it. When the team wins a lot Bloods culture is promoted as the magical component no other club can match. When the team loses, Bloods culture is the reason why we can fight back. Ultimately it's just used to reinforce the club's history and standards, reminding players that they play for a proud club who expect no less than 100% effort. It's not magic.

The leadership failed in getting the team prepared for the big game. The team was woeful from about 5 minutes into the game. That's preparation.
The leadership failed to address the aggression of the Hawks at our players, again could have happened early.
The leadership failed to stand up at ANY time during the game.
Horse always talks about a 4 quarter effort, well they did put in a 4 quarter effort of absolute rubbish.
The leadership has failed to stand up again post game. Stating the bleeding obvious doesn't cut it. We were sh!thouse, won't happen again bla bla bla.
Anybody suggesting the criticism on here is not justified is kidding themselves. Including the singling out of players.
I am not for a minute suggesting it is a simple matter. You don't turn up to a GF and play like that for no reason.
You need leadership when the going gets tough, there wasn't any on Saturday,IMO, McVeigh and Jack have no choice but to stand aside.
For mine, we have to pick one of Hanners or Parker or JPK.

I don't think we need to panic and make wholesale changes to the leadership group, this will happen naturally anyway over time as players retire.

However if you were considering a change in captaincy Nick Smith would have to be one of the leading candidates.

You say this and then...

For mine, we have to pick one of Hanners or Parker or JPK.

Suggest we replace them with a member of the current leadership group and two of the worst players on the ground.

Replacing our Captains will not solve a single issue from Saturday. Nor would any of the players "proposed" to take over solve a single issue as well. It would be a token gesture pure and simple.

Not to mention replacing those players removes the hurt and loss and the will to drive them into 2015.

I think they deserve a chance at redemption.

Whatever the history and dynamic of the Bloods Culture, our club has a reputation for being the nice guys of the AFL.

But I think next year they'll probably have something of a harder edge about them. The coaches certainly will.

I just wish Longmire would say "f*ck you eddie shove that up your arse" - if we win the premiership that is.

"I think the thing we all want to do most is apologise to all of our supporters. Obviously you don’t go out and try to put that kind of performance in, but it’s happened and we all have to man-up to it and move on. However as a player, I do want to apologise to our fans." Thanks Mike Pyke, at least one player has had the guts to do it......

Dunno how anyone can be oh theres always next year less than a weak after that crap

Yeah the sky is not falling they are still a good side, but there was to be repercussions from that loss, some of the problems from saturday run deeper than a bad day out of the office

People want to put their head in the sand and move on then good luck to you i accept that, we are all different, if people want to trade away players willy nilly yeah its extreme

But that was not good enough and there is no guarantee they will be back next year or have no scars from this game

They let slip a rare chance for a flag in footy terms its almost like the end of the world

The big issue I have and I believe if the players genuinely review their game,is this, even back in the '70s,80 & '90s when we were terrible we always played honestly, then as success came our way through hard work, playing honestly was pretty much a benchmark of the team, Saturday they were not honest in every aspect, that's a big statement but that's how I see it.
The talk of the myth, nonsense, I believe our players & club has an enormous amount of pride, this won't only sting but it will burn, I have no doubt we will bounce back... That's what we expect and they will demand that of themselves.

I know but as the days go by you have to come to sort of acceptance sadly :/ im really afraid of what that loss could do to some of our players.

It was last saturday

Maybe in nsw people just move on to the theatre or something else but that was the single most pathetic effort i have seen in a grand final

That stench doesn't die in a few days

Im with you don't get me wrong but we have talked about it on this board to the point of exhaustion, chairman needs to issue a apology as well especially as the amount of money some spent to watch that tripe.

I made myself feel better by watching a replay of 2012. The same players who failed were glorious that day, I am feeling a bit better...no less disappointed, just a little better.

What's the good of an apology......that's the highs and lows of following a team. They didn't perform like that on purpose....we know they are embarrassed by that rubbish, they know they didn't man up on the day and were bullied out of it....they don't need to apologise to me, its like I say to the kids, don't tell me your sorry, show me. Let 2015 be one big freakin apology .
