Why is everyone so certain that Konstanty is no good?
He was injured most of last year, is stuck behind Paps and Wicks, is still only a 2nd year player.. and is going pretty well in the VFL - think hes kicked 2 goals in each of the last few games
Mainly because in watching the VFL, he just doesn’t really impact games.

He bobs up with the odd goal - but his possession counts are low & he just doesn’t look to have the “spark” that you see in the really good small forwards.

I don't the impression watching him that he's busting a gut, trying to everything he can to get a debut. He's decent enough, but looks like he's either comfortable where he is, or knows that he's not going to get a chance.

Even if he and the Swans know they'll be parting company at the end of the season, I'd think he'd be out to impress other clubs that he's worth a spot.

I think the difference is the better small forwards usually come from players that play on ball in the level below. Even look at Wicks' numbers in the twos and he has had many 20 possession and a couple of 25 possession games whereas i think the career high for Konstanty was last matches 17 possession and before that it was 16. He is just not getting enough of the ball

You might be right - albeit I don’t actually recall a Papley, McGlynn or Jetta (by way of example) playing in the 2’s …. even though I suspect at some stage they did.

Couldn't find records of Papley playing in the twos but many of the average or above average small forwards on other sides in the comp have spent time in the twos and most average around if not more than 17 touches a game which is higher than Konstanty's best game

Papley played at least one game in NEAFL coming back from injury because I shouted at him to get on his bike when he was walking.the lazy beggar.
Wicks has definitely played in the mids as well as the forwards.
Ronke too IIRC.
Jetta or McGlynn I don't recall.

If you look at any footy team, those playing as a small forward or lockdown defender are often in the bottom third, if you rate the team from best player to worst, especially in any level below AFL.

The reluctance to run Konstanty through our VFL midfield potentially indicates that he is well down the pecking order of players his size on our list. I suspect if either of Papley or Wicks was to get injured, any one of Roberts, Fox, Cleary, Warner or Mitchell would get the call, combined with a shuffle of the magnets.

I recall it was buddy who told horse to play Papley straight away after his first preseason and he debuted in rd 1 against Collingwood and he kicked 3 goals.

The problem for Konstanty is Corey is back in a week or two and i think he would be a better small forward than Konstanty to replace an injured Wicks/Papley

Nope. Corey has not shown great aptitude as a small forward.

Looking at the heat map he played in the 1s against Essendon this year and collected 11 touches but kicked 3 behinds. But also played some time on the wing in his brief games in the 1s so far in his career

I still think guys like Konstanty are important for depth. Small forward seems a important role for most side's structure. If Wicks/Papley were unavailable, I would want to see Konstanty get a chance rather than try to reshuffle players from other positions.

Don’t know if it’s nerves but he was woeful in the 1’s 🤷‍♂️
Oh yea he wasn't effective but i looked back at alot of his games so far in the vfl and afl and he has played either on ball wing or half forward so feel like he is destined to be a decent pressure forward just needs another run of games in the VFL to pressure wicks

Bunyip is 69 k from Leongatha. Not in the same team me thinks

Yeah that's what I said, I might not have worded it very well but Tom H played for Leongatha who play in Gippsland League, Tom P played for Bunyip who play in West Gippsland league. They just played for the same NAB league/Coates league team, Gippsland Power.

Not sure I'd say woeful. Was ineffective, you're right he looked nervy, but he got to a lot of good positions.

Have a feeling he's a player who if he can get his confidence up and figure out how to play to his strengths it could come together very quickly. Just a question of it it will happen.

They normally have a short interview with new recruits on the club website. Think he's been there a few days already. Seeing we are back to weekdays now might have some media staff there in next day or two?
