This is so funny. 'Angry old man yells at cloud'. The season hasn't even started yet. Anything to do with medical is best waited until the full information is gathered and timelines are known. Otherwise the same people crying about transparency will come back crying that it took 6 weeks instead of 4 or that the 'initial report' has not enough information or all manor of other things.

They're not hiding info. More important things to do than release a bloody statement before the severity, recovery period etc have even been assessed properly.
What is funny about asking the question about one of our most important players? 9 days is plenty of time to be scanned and make an assessment and provide an update to its members. Why the secrecy? Why has the media got wind of it. You may not care but others may want to be kept informed.

I understand that many supporters want transparency and or communication in one form or another, especially around player injuries and other matters

Personally, I have no interest in a running commentary on player welfare, nor media reporting as most are speculative

But let's say the club does release a statement confirming Walsh has back soreness and is on a modified program.

Does that change the level of speculation amongst our supporters? I doubt it

Ongoing back issues can change daily, same goes for workloads/strategies

Communication 101, don’t let the media run the narrative. It’s as simple as that.

You couldn’t possibly believe they thought it would stay under wraps.

Every club have people that share information, nothing unusual

And at times, the information is orchestrated by the club

What are they keeping under wraps? Sammy played an intra club last week, had (what many like Soapy are saying) a mild feeling of pain in his back and will be rested tomorrow as a precaution.

There will probably about 5 others rested tomorrow due to their training programs or as a precaution by both teams.

For gods sakes the sky is not falling and the club does not owe you an update for every minor piece of injury news. If it becomes major I'm sure that they'll let you know just as they did when Jack did his knee.

Please stop being so rational it is hurting my brain!

I think people being vocal about transparency, is more about frustration of the actual injury or the player injured

Whoever reported Walsh's back injury a few weeks ago has some serious psychic skills, given the soreness apparently occurred only after match sim last Monday.

Must not be a stress fracture like reported though. They'd be able to pick that up in scans and he'd be out for 3 months, no questions.

Still very concerning given his history.

Latest Injury Update 21st Feb …

THE Club can confirm co-vice captain Sam Walsh has been placed on a modified training program.
“Sam experienced back soreness after completing match simulation last Monday. After further assessment it has been decided to reduce his training loads,” Carlton General Manager of Football Brad Lloyd said.

“We will take a no-risk approach with Sam’s return to play, therefore he will not feature in the upcoming practice games, with the Club to provide a further update on Sam’s progress prior to our Round Zero clash against Brisbane.”

So JSOS out for the season. Weitering and Hollands out for the first two weeks. Now Walsh, Marchbank, Martin and Owies under some doubt lt for Opening Round. Could argue that is 5 or 6 of our best 23 right there - not ideal. Just gotta hope those last four can recover in time for Brisbane

Round 1 (or 0) might be the best time to get them. What would you say if I told you that losing Grand Finalists have just a 32% win rate in the first H&A round the following year?

no idea if it’s true, just wondering what you’d say…
Yes, if that’s true that’s an interesting stat.
Whilst it’s encouraging I’m still not confident. Hopefully the coaching team and players do enough homework to rattle them early and make a good start. And hopefully we’ve learned more ways to maintain and hang on to leads.

The weather has cooled a fair bit with the last good rain. There is still the humidity to contend with.

The boys have had a pretty tough pre-season by all reports and with opening round not far away I'm comfortable with the club taking a conservative approach.

Premierships aren't won in Feb.

I understand people getting nervy when they see names appear on the injury list but at this stage there's only SOS and Weits who are red flags. Our list has never been better placed to provide quality cover like it is now.

Meanwhile up in Brisbane and down at Richmond….

As long as the club are asking questions..

Not just questions, but serious questions.

Serious, probing questions..

Actually, serious, probing, no holds barred questions.

And after the serious, probing, no holds barred questions, I hope the club is asking random members of the Club High Performance and Coaching team Likert scale questions.

And then when I find out that there is no case to answer, other than bad luck, then I will look for other things to question.

And bot just questions, but serious questions ..

Serious, probing questions..
