A rumour from a poster via PM who has had some good mail recently. Will remain anonymous for now:

Carlton looking at trading pick 1 for pick 2 and something else TBC. Possible options discussed are a second rounder, Jack Martin, or a 2019 second round pick.
The idea is to increase our return on pick 1 by getting it to the Crows while we still get Walsh and more back. GC end up with several picks inside 20.

The source of this rumour isn't Chief, by any chance Shan?

There is no incentive for GC to give up pick 2 because they like Walsh as well.
Let's just say that somehow or other Adelaide end up with pick 1, then GC are perfectly placed to get Walsh at pick 2.
At best, they would give us pick 3 for pick 1 (later picks/players excluded).
I can't see a trade of pick one happening unless it was a history making 3 way deal between Carlton, Adelaide and GC, with Carlton getting no later than pick 2, but as I said, GC have no incentive to do it.

Pick 71. It’s gonna be a doozy.

Might have been discussed already, but bidding war between Adelaide and Port will be interesting. We know GCS is keen on Walsh, but if we are holding our position on not trading pick 1 (for now), it’ll be interesting to see the desperation of Adelaide and Port to get a pick 2 or 3. Wouldn’t be surprised if a deal was done between GCS and Adelaide or Port (or both) at the 11th hour if GCS were offered something silly for pick 2/3.

Depending how desperate Adelaide/Port are for a particular player, e.g. Luko, Rankine, et al. will we see SOS trade pick 1 at the 11th hour after GCS have traded pick 2, for pick 2 + picks/player such that we could still pick up Walsh at pick 2 and get another pick in the first/second round this year??

Does that make sense?

Just a thought - mind games and desperation could work in SOS’ favour this draft...

Trade Radio (Barrett) unashamedly flag waving for Melb and potting Freo.

The AFL must want May to Melb
Barrett is naive. Personally, think Bell has done absolutely the right thing. Have said before, market value is what the market circumstances dictate not some forkin pick points criteria. Point is that Freo can get Hogan next year for zilch; why on earth would they give up pick 5; its not like they're in the immediate window.
Kudos to Bell.

And Melb are running around with their cheat puffed out saying we deman this or that when it's MELBOURNE who are driving this. They Want May more than Freo want Hogan.

That still equates to making a three-way trade with Gold Coast.

I don't see it.

Adelaide/Port will take out the middle man (Carlton) by taking on pick 2 or 3 from Gold Coast.

If Carlton deal directly with Adelaide/Port then Gold Coast have zero incentive to trade pick 2 as they get the man they want there.

Not only would we have to satisfy Adelaide/Port but also GC. Not likely to happen without getting hammered.

Yeh, I started playing with scenarios and anything involving Gold Coast doesn't need to involve us. There are fair three-way swaps and so on, but ultimately we just don't need to be involved because GC can deal with #2.

However, *IF* SOS was not set on Walsh there would be scenarios for PA or Adelaide to come over the top for 1 and we could still stay high in the pecking order. Unlikely, I guess.

Hogan isn't a free agent next year he is just uncontracted, Freo got pick 2 for Lachie Weller last year now they only offer pick 11 and a future second for Hogan.

What are the rules regarding how many players we have to draft. i think we have to draft at least 3 players. I ask because if we pull up stumps now, we draft Walsh at 1, go for a Siesta then come back at the end of the draft and pickup a couple of kids from the Poowong 3rds. Maybe we are foced to fraft a couple of players so smoky they are living at the burns unit.
