If Carlton wins 8-10 games next year their first round pick in 2018 could be as low as 10-12, less academy players and compensation picks etc. Everyone talks about the club's first rounder next year as if it's an automatic pick 1.

If any club offered pick 6 & 15 for Carlton's first rounder next year their recruiters should be drawn and quartered.

Would love to know the full reasoning for why we decided to skip over Scrimshaw coming in on a dime. It seems the Hawks are going to improve their 22 almost as much as we will, for about half the price.

Maybe he wasn't interested in joining us? His uncle played for the Hawks methinks.

Also, Scrimshaw just left a struggling bottom-dwelling club. Why would he choose to join another one?

Think things have changed on it now. I was always of the thought that T&C’s were just transferred across but Sam McClure reckons it’s torn up & you start again (negotiations start afresh but you’d think some things should remain I.e. salary).

Why do you use the pejorative DH in the discussion ? Carlton has recruited more soft pussy DHs over the last two decades than I care to name - seriously embarrassing and largely explains two decades of fail.

What Carlton needs more than anything else is a bunch of players who enjoy physical contact and beating their opponent - I call that mongrel.

CYHTD, don’t think it’s that straight forward. Up to this year, Shiel has played in a better team which always seem to get more AA players than poorer teams.

also, shiel has not got the attention that goes with a number 2 / 3 mid, that treloar has had.

be interesting to see how shiel goes at essendon where he’ll be a number 2 mid most likely. he could raise his game to another level, or struggle with the extra responsibility.

Agree with all of that. Suppose my point is that stating Treloar is categorically better is a bit of a stretch. They're quite similar players to me and would fetch a similar price if it weren't for GWS cap situation

What? No we didnt. We traded 2 x 2nd round picks to Sydney for their Pick 13. That pick was then given to Adelaide for Gov.

We also traded a future 5th round pick (holds next to no value and a token swap only) and SANFL player for a future 3rd rounder.

We need midfielders.

We just traded one in and look likely to draft another.

Cripps, Dow, Setterfield, Kennedy, SPS, Fisher, Walsh. That's 7 mids before you add in Murphy and Ed.

Essendon will not be trading a future first for Shiel they have the upper hand due to their salary cap.

Always about the contest for the ball. We arent talking snipers. Just hard tough mentalities that will take pain to themselves before a loss. And when you go in hard like that its the opponent that hurts more often than not.
