My 19 year old nephew was diagnosed with Crohn's late last year and this is his 9th week in hospital and he had a 3rd major bowel operation last week.
He is supposed to be starting his 2nd year of Aviation at uni but being an auto-immune disease I doubt he will ever be able to fly.
This is a guy who is a state level swimmer and a double black belt in taekwondo. His mental health is very bad atm :(

Sad to hear Neese. My wife's cousin had that from 14. Lost weight, no energy, really struggled for years. Lots of drugs etc but nothing worked. Doctor's wanted her to have large parts of bowel cut out. Was in a bad way. At 23 went on a pure plant based diet administered by a Dr in the US. Change was dramatic. Never been sick since and very very healthy.

He's on chemo and adjusting to having a bag for life. I wish he could transfer it to me so he could live a full life
That's a big call Neese, but i admire you for it.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

seems flippant to merely like a devastating post like this - just acknowledging what an awful state of affairs this must be for the young man and all concerned and affected by his struggle............

It's cool, I just wanted to give a perspective that my nephew was an extremely fit and healthy person and this all changed for him within the space of 2 weeks. He's lost 15kg in the last 9 weeks and had very little fat on him to begin with. He is tall and lanky like his Dad.
Unfortunately I know a lot about Crohn's now.

I hope Willo be able to play this season and no doubt he will be getting the best of care.
Sorry if this is off topic. Like I said just offering a recent perspective on Crohn's.

Bad news is it may be right on topic............

Well done to Gibbons! A fantastic opportunity for the lad. Seems the sort of player who won’t leave any stone unturned. Given the best player I ever saw in navy Blue was Diesel (before people say what about Doull, what about Jezza, etc, I only started following in 1982), I also like giving an opportunity to a short bloke who has been repeatedly overlooked.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Williamson. Terrible news for him.

I actually think I might be just hanging on - of course as a supporter we don't suffer anywhere near what a player with the condition being intimated does - but when another favourite is touted as possibly lost to the game - and this time permanently..............I reckon I might be closer to done than I thought.........

Well that just deflated me. Bugger. I'd like to know why it isn't being discussed

Sorry for any false hope but can only pass on what I'm told
So maybe it's fair to say all the 'mail' you get and report from your club sources about how well everything is tracking is not quite correct.

Maybe just one view or data point?

Nothing wrong with it as it's interesting hear various data points however it is not as absolute as it would seem.

As I think Harker has said, the proof will be in JLT and early rounds as to how we are truly going on our journey towards success

Ok, Baras has dropped a bomb on the training thread.
Are we allowed to discuss the issue Williamson has? I assume it’s a crohn’s relapse
Crohns is a disease you just dont get over. Its a lifelong battle but it is manageable.

When there are attacks, it does take its toll on the individual. I have a family friend who has had it since a teenager. It effects his ability to eat, pain is significant and hence his weight and build fluctuates.

Not ideal for a average person to endure let alone an AFL footballer who needs to manage diet etc

Vaguely rings a bell that Soapy may have said some info gets held back, once upon a time.

Doesn't take a genius to realise that he could get his nephew in serious trouble at the club if he posted certain observations that may be shared with family. Sometimes you get told something in confidence, and the right thing to do is not plaster it on an internet forum - shocking, I know!
In that case if its a case of not betraying confidence then he shouldn't say anything at all about the player in question, rather than a half truth. Back going well, crohns not.

I'm sure you will whack me for that comment but to the forum, its unhelpful to those reading to find out how we are tracking

Unfair

Now formalised, welcome Gibbons. Looking forward to what he can do now his sole focus is football. Things aren't looking great for Williamson, wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play again

****!!!!!! tcp obviously the club will see this through yeah??
