I'd still be happy to give the job to Barker.
Got some good tests in the last 3rd of the season - Hawthorn twice, Fremantle, Collingwood and North Melbourne.
The next couple of weeks will really decide Barker's fate. If we get smashed in more than 2-3 of these games, I dare say Barker will lose his opportunity to coach CFC next year.

Two rumours on 3AW rumour file - one yesterday and one today

1. A member of 3AW football panel been approached for Carlton coaching job - has to be Bomber or Lingy.

2. Team of Brett Ratten and Neil Craig strongly favoured by coaching selection panel

Remember ...only rumours.

To add weight to that rumour I've heard that Neil Craig has been approached as an assistant for next year.

Be amusing to watch Craig and O'Sullivan wrestling over who holds up the team board at the quarter time breaks .
Both yesterday's men , surely time to move on ...

Don't understand the love for Craig. Had a very good adelaide side which kept falling over at the business end of the season and has recently been at Melbourne and Essendon which is not exactly filling me with confidence.

With our injuries the club might not mark him as hard. Losing Gibbs and Graham from our midfield hurts.

He'd be good tactically. Although thats why i thought we got Laidley.

Neil Craig has been in the industry a long time and achieved very little, pass. Now Ratten has had inside experience in a highly successful and modern organisation he may be older and wiser. Having a list manager makes who the coach is a lot less important and is necessary for a guy like Ratten who's rebuild plan, talent identification and poor influence on our drafting came into question a lot. Getting a Ross Lyon wreaks of quick fix. Would be really happy to go with a young coach with loads of assistant experience and spend our football department dollars on assistants and support staff. A small building with big foundations is better than a big building with weak foundations. Winning can not be seen as important. It is important that we tank this year but we need to do it wisely. By that I mean play the young players and rest any senior player with even the slightest niggle and send those who need surgery away ASAP. Still have a go on the field and try to win but hopefully it wont happen all too much with players out for inexperienced ones. I get hints that we are already doing that. I think Jon Barker could be as good a choice as any especially with a good group of support staff under him but we need to assess our options. We should be scouting for support staff and assistants every bit as hard as we are for a head coach thought the head coach needs a say in this.

Sorry but no thanks. I get your drift but the minute we begin to enjoy losing more than winning as supporters is the minute our culture goes into free fall. In all likelihood our best won't be good enough in most games this year, but we still have to have a 100% crack at it. Playing kids for he future is different to wanting to lose.

Craig rumour is spot on

Interesting barass70

From that alone I get the impression that Wiley may not be around next year then.

I have no qualms with Craig having some involvement at our club. Seems to be, alike Wiley, someone the kids may learn a lot from.

Can be both though.

It's essential that we get games into the young guys who we think can play for Carlton long-term.
It's essential that we go into next season with a clean bill of health as far as injuries are concerned.
It's essential that we bring in the most talented players we possibly can, provided they have the right attitude.

We achieve all three by playing the kids, not taking chances on injured players, and going into the draft with the best possible picks (through ladder position and trading).

It's a small consolation prize for fans who are hurting at our on-field losses that come draft day, we could be getting an out and out superstar. We shouldn't be aiming for wooden spoons, but even if we have a real hard go at the rest of the year, we've got Freo, Hawthorn twice, North, Collingwood, GWS and Brisbane away, and Melbourne. If we win three of those, it's a bloody miracle.

Yeah I agree, the draw is tough and we likely won't win many. I just believe there is a fine line between doing what is best for the future and deliberately tanking. The line is crossed when the joy of losing is experienced.

I don't think anyone is celebrating losses. It's natural, however, to look for positives when faced with a shite situation.

A bit of false bravado to opposition supporters is necessary. After Essendon got done by the Saints, one of the guys at the office (devoted Bombers fan) refused to speak to anyone for an entire day. Wouldn't even make eye contact with me, and waved me off when I wandered over to see how he was. That's not the kind of response we should be condoning.

Footy is to be enjoyed, and even if we lose to Richmond I can still find positives in Buckley's brilliant mark as he was falling over, or Levi's thumping goal from outside 50. And yes, the fact that it puts us one step closer to rebuilding our great club.

Yeah as I say fine line, as I think some supporters get a little ahead of themselves and start planning our pick in the draft. It is good to stay positive about the future though.

Every loss still hurts. It's not where I thought we would be again after breaking through for finals in 2009 and making that semi in 2011. I make myself feel better by looking towards the draft so that our next rebuild is full of quality and we can win again.

In the moment though, I'm all about winning that game.

Yep and that's how it should be. Have a crack and keep looking to the future. It's the old " damn it, Brisbane lost- we won't get weitering" that annoys me.

I don't have an issue with hoping we do our best but with the season lost, hoping for other teams to finish above us so we can maximise our draft pick. That's not tanking. Just don't want the spoon.

I don't see the upgrade in Craig on Wiley. Or Laidley for that matter.

No tank necessary, either way we'll be getting a pretty valuable draft pick.
We should be building a culture where players have to work to get games, rather than simply getting games just because they are young.

Yeah and the issue is to keep doing our best. The water gets cloudy pretty quickly when November becomes the goal and not next game. I don't think we're tanking at present, I just think it is a trap for the clubs mindset that needs avoiding.

What happens when we've got established senior players dishing up tripe that doesn't deserve games? I'd rather give opportunities to the kids than gift games to Yarran at the moment.
