Anyone consider that maybe other clubs will play hardball with their players because they can say...

"You'll take $100k less than you want because otherwise we'll send you to the PSD and you'll get picked up by Carlton."

The PSD threat is so often just that. It would be useful if supporters understood how rarely it is activated.

I really don't understand why it isn't.

If I was in SOSs chair, I'd be on the phone to the best uncontracted players agents saying we are willing to pay 100k over market value for the player to walk to the PSD.

Why wouldn't we?

Especially if it hurts a club like Essendon or Richmond.

If we take one gun player through the PSD then it's open season on our entire list for other clubs to do the same.

It already has been open season on our list for a while now. Seems we have lost a few players during the season due to approaches from other clubs. There is a suspiciously large number of players that seem to know where they are headed before talks are able to start (Betts, Henderson, Yarran, Waite) including some still under contract.

Might be time to start making a fuss.

Works both ways, we wouldnt like our uncontracted players walking into the PSD for nil return. Also, funnily enough there are some players that have respect for what their old club has given them over the years and want to see the right thing done in terms of a fair trade eg. Judd.

As opposed to giving away our players in free agency and our own list management strategies

We have had they eyes picked out of us (granted some of it was out fault).

If we walk 1 gun who can't find a home via the PSD then so be it, you just know Brisbane would do it

Yep SOS will definitely take Weitering first. Don't think they rate Francis as highly as what most people have. From what i've been told, it seems like he has 'issues'. I don't know if it's related to the death of his brother or not though.

I'm so pleased to be reading this. Weitering is a beast.

because they end up with nothing.....

What? If we refused to offer anything for a player and forced them to go through the PSD the other team gets nothing. I'm asking why the teams with the #1 PSD pick rarely use it on luring good players?

With Free Agency being a free hit for clubs poaching our players then I think we should be able to use the PSD for someone like Carlisle. I just don't think we will because when we don't finish last, clubs will use the same approach to poach someone from us.

The PSD is close to redundant now that FA is here. It was designed to allow un-contracted players a (slight) opportunity to move to their club of choice (assuming their current club wasn't playing ball). It was rarely used because the clubs largely saw the risks of losing players for bupkis if they were sufficiently intransigent.
