Wish these clubs (including ours) would cut the bullshit and just get deals done for the player they want like West Coast did with Redden. No holding up other deals, no haggling over moving up six spots in the fourth round, they just did what they needed to do to get the player they want. Richmond are adding a guy who regularly turns matches on their head with his brilliant passages of play, just ******* pay what he's worth so both clubs and whatever players involved can get on with things.

That only happens when it is a win win trade. Most times it is going to be a win loss. It depends on who holds the cards. The player (when he is uncontracted) or the club (when he is contracted)
Contracted player eg yarran : You want him you have to pony up = we win , they lose(pay overs)
Uncontracted player eg Henderson: You want him, then help us mitigate our losses = we lose , they win(pay unders)

All the bullshit is mere negotiating tactics so that the two sides can feel happier about their loss, albeit picks or players. Added to this mix is the expectations of the members. A brief glance in this forum soon tells you that there is a wide variation in peoples ratings of our various players. So member expectation is also trying to be managed as well.

Father son is not the free hit it once was. If it's all too hard for Bailey then we are better looking elsewhere. I've said it before but I think he is making a mistake, have a look at the top 10 Saints Best and fairest

Steven (25.5)
Armitage (27.25)
Dempster (31.75)
Montagna (32)
Geary (27.25)
Roberton (24.25)
Riewoldt (33)
Bruce (23.25)
Fisher (33.25)
Webster (22.25)

It's an average age of 28. They have some other obvious talent like Billings underneath that but it is nothing like the young talent of say Bulldogs and are not doing well in their rebuild at all in my opinion.

The problem with our team is we have a lot of HBF's this may make him worry for a spot.

At the moment,

Simpson
Touhy
Buckley
Byrne
Sheean
Docherty
Rainbow
Holman
Dick

That's 9 players that play in the back line as running defenders. Then depending what we pick up trade period there could be more.

No to Menzel and No to Gibbs unless it is a really really really really good deal. We shouldnt trade players that want to play for our club that have knocked back other clubs. Look at Brisbane. We can rebuild without losing Gibbs
I do agree but what offer is enough?
Pick 13 from the Crows for Troy?
Top ten for Gibbs?
I think Gibbs is an untouchable as what you say is true in that he knocked back FA last year but not sure on Menzel.

I just hope we go for quality and no more Liam Jones's

13 for troy is just going backwards because i will want to draft someone like menzel, we already have menzel. Kid hardly trained all year, full pre season behind him, top 3 talent of our list (crippa & doc)

Can someone just pm me when something actually happens ?

Cheers in advance

I would be VERY happy to see it. I went to 17 games this year and whilst our performances were ordinary the one thing that upset me was my 12 year old son looking at me saying "at least you have seen a few flags dad".

Let's hope Troy has that good pre season and has a great 2016

So...

"Future pick to secure Henderson?

Carlton's Lachlan Henderson will join Geelong in a move that will see Cats forward Josh Walker join the Blues, The Australian reports.

The deal will see the Cats trade their first draft pick from 2016 and Walker to Carlton for swingman Henderson and a yet-unspecified draft pick."

Im 22 years old. The best memory i have is after round 3 in 2012 when we just smashed collingwood and were premiership favourites. Its been a tough rough but oh lordy lord will i enjoy the first one i see(excluding 95) ever so much more because of it.

Love it, Smalls. More supporters like you pls.

Hang in there. It's been a while, but we'll get there. And when we do, it will feel bloody terrific!

Pelchen is right though. It is a shallow draft, so clubs will be loath to cough up their early picks. All clubs want to get 1 good kid.
The picks we keep hearing about are around 17-25, that is decent, but not top end.
If you want top end you have to cough up top end such as Gibbs and Menzel.
Menzel is the one I'd shop around, as he has deficiencies we are all aware of.
Gibbs I think is a content type, so would probably not be bursting to leave, so could be harder to shop around.
If you could get a top 10-12 pick for Menzel, and if SOS was sure he could get a gun mid there, say Gresham or Balic, then you do it I say.

Not worth more than a third round pick...

trust me, even those of us who remember a few cups will enjoy the next one even more because of the last 15 or so years.

That deal makes sense. Cats will be looking for picks even in 3rd/4th round bec they're giving up all their picks to get Danger and Hendo etc.

yep, reckon that might be it.

Look Walker is decent steak knives.

Reckon the deal will include #40 or so.

This is a solid outcome for us.

Happy with Hendo and #40 for geelongs next year's first and walker.

Pretty good deal for us if walker can make it, or will he just be a list clogger like Jones? Having two sitting on our list would hurt
