Just on Bailey, he could change his mind up until draft day according to Emma.

All he has to do is say "sorry, I've had second thoughts please don't pick me". If the club he nominates is sympathetic they just don't match the offer. e.g.

pick 25 Melbourne: "we'd like to bid on Bailey at this pick".
St Kilda: "sorry it's too high". (i.e. in a gentleman's agreement they won't bid)
Carlton: "We'll take him!"
If he has to have second thoughts to come to Carlton then I don't want him..

I was expecting a pick at the end of the first round, not a player.
So Cas & Tom for pick 17? If so, I personally believe both our boys are worth a pick in the early 20's, each.

Would you trade say pick 22 & 24 (just an example) for pick 17? In this draft? Jake Melksham looks like netting pick 25. Why should we settle on pick 17 for BOTH our boys? They are both contracted, Melksham is not. One is our FF, the other just came 4th in our B+F.

17 & 21 I'd happily do. Mayes & 21 also. Just not happy if it were to turn out 17 for both.

Can someone pick apart my proposed 4-way trade? I can't see how anyone loses if it happens.

Gold Coast in: Seedsman / out: Pick 22
Collingwood in: Aish / out: Seedsman
Brisbane in: Bell and Casboult / out: Aish and Pick 21
Carlton in: Pick 21 and Pick 22 / out: Bell and Casboult

Everyone happy? Seems a bargain for each club.
Gold Coast get the guy they want with the price they want.
Collingwood get the man they want with someone they were trading anyway.
Brisbane get the players they want with essentially a single pick (as Aish to PSD the most likely).
Carlton get two picks that can be used in so many ways (Anderson from Hawks and GWS players). Yes losing Casboult hurts but if we can replace him with GWS stocks we'll be better off long term.
Yep, 21 & 22, you got me. Sounds fair all round.

Collingwood get too good of a deal, and on that basis its a no go for me

How does pick 22 get to Carlton?:thumbsu:

Father son is not the free hit it once was. If it's all too hard for Bailey then we are better looking elsewhere. I've said it before but I think he is making a mistake, have a look at the top 10 Saints Best and fairest

Steven (25.5)
Armitage (27.25)
Dempster (31.75)
Montagna (32)
Geary (27.25)
Roberton (24.25)
Riewoldt (33)
Bruce (23.25)
Fisher (33.25)
Webster (22.25)

It's an average age of 28. They have some other obvious talent like Billings underneath that but it is nothing like the young talent of say Bulldogs and are not doing well in their rebuild at all in my opinion.

So because we selected both in the rookie draft, we just throw them away now? We must be better than this. We have to maximise every asset we have.
Who is throwing anyone away? Bell is gone, Cas is a rising 26 year old with half a good year behind him. I like them both, but a young, highly rated mid isn't a bad return.

Does Mayes have the heart and competitive nature that Bell and Casboult have? He doesn't have the physical presence and I haven't seen much leadership shown by him either. Talent only gets you so far.

They're still getting a very good player. His highlights reel is pretty good.
Wish these clubs (including ours) would cut the bullshit and just get deals done for the player they want like West Coast did with Redden. No holding up other deals, no haggling over moving up six spots in the fourth round, they just did what they needed to do to get the player they want. Richmond are adding a guy who regularly turns matches on their head with his brilliant passages of play, just ****ing pay what he's worth so both clubs and whatever players involved can get on with things.

Richmond need to come out looking 'good' after a couple of recent trades that went belly-up.
They were pretty quick with the Hampson one but may now be regretting it.
It is up to us also in that we can just shut the door on Richmond and tell them we won't talk unless the #12 is there........but that won't happen.

Someone said it well the other day; If a club feels that they can get Yarran in tune, then he's worth the #12 and if not, he's not even worth a third rounder.
Make a decision.

I was talking with a mate last night at dinner, and his brothers friend was at the physio and overhead a SOS himself in the room next door discussing the trades.

Apparently the reason that things with Yarran and Henderson are going so slow and other clubs are not showing interest is because both have done medicals and failed. Physically they seemed ok but during testing the found both players to lack a heart.

HUN reporting we're ready to pounce on Lennon in the PSD if his contract impasse continues.

:)

Hun reports a lot of things........a few are right.......most are wrong.

That's the card we can hold but would we? It's a pretty shit thing to do for the player in question and for the opposing club........if it did though fall our way as a matter of fate........well then.

Just looking at it from a points perspective.....lets assume Richmond think Yarran is worth a pick between pick 15 and 20

So they give us 12 = 1268
And they give us 49 = 287
And we give them 38 = (465)
Total net points lost = 1090 - Thats equivalent to a pick between 15 and 16 under the afl's system.

Yarran and 38 for 12 and 49. Get it done and move on.

Reading on the Foxsports site Pelchan is saying if we really want to rebuild we should also be putting Menzel and Gibbs on the table.
I wonder what these two would get us in terms of draft picks?

This is the first post I have made in quite a while as I have had an unwell son but I do see that the arguments have become ridiculous at times.

Gotta love October. :D

No to Menzel and No to Gibbs unless it is a really really really really good deal. We shouldnt trade players that want to play for our club that have knocked back other clubs. Look at Brisbane. We can rebuild without losing Gibbs
