Jebus, order $6 worth of chips around here and you can back the Ute in and leave with the axles sparking on the bitumen

In Melbourne the old joke is - you take your order back to the shop and say

“hey is the fish I ordered is still alive”

And the shop keeper says

“Impossible”

And you say

“It must be - it’s eaten half my chips”

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Why would Dow want to leave if he's being offered a new contract (allegedly)
Because he thinks he's perennial sub/injury cover when everyone fit? Whether that's ultimately true or not, you couldn't blame him if another team came knocking with better opportunity.

I actually think he could force his way into best 22 but it's not a sure thing. Playing every game for WC, Bombers, North etc absolutely is.

If true congrats to Dow for getting a longer offer, but he may still knock that back for more opportunity elsewhere. I'd imagine he would start just behind Kelly at West Coast every week.

If he stays he will be behind Cripps, Walsh and Cerra and will still be fighting amongst Kennedy, George and then (hopefully) up and coming Carroll and some draftees.
I think we really need to keep Dow. Absolute clearance beast, who can burst out of congestion = big point of difference. He makes winning clearances look easy. I think Kennedy can play forward and rotate through the guts. No guarantees on health of Cripps, Hewett or Walsh who have all had significant back issues. I’ve read that he loves Carlton and the players love him. May want to stick around for team success. Hope the rumours are true.

I think you have covered it rather well. 2 others to consider for going: Plowman, Carroll (although IMO I'd like us to be able to keep Carroll, but it may be better for all parties if he's afforded a chance elsewhere).

Edit: I'd also like us to keep both Durds and Fog...
I think C durdin and Fog stay:
Unfortunately I think its the end of the road for:
ED
Plow
Lob (regardless of Contract)
Philp
Honey
Fish (if he cant do a Daniel Rioli and make HBF his own)

I’d be shocked and disappointed if we offer Dow 3 years. Stinks of the unnecessary long contracts we offered O’Brien and Kennedy.

I imagine either way he’d probably prefer to look for reliable seniors exposure at another club. But if we offered 3 years, he could be tempted for the security…. I can’t see many others offering Dow 3 years 👀

Not sure he’d break into North’s team. LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw and Phillips would all be ahead of him.

dow to be offered new 2-3 year deal
Further to this and maybe 10cp has heard the similar:

Do not be surprised if some players restructure or take slight pay cuts to accommodate everyone. Only name I've seen mentioned specifically is the skipper "but it runs deeper."

The group can taste it. Competition is wide open and they believe that they can beat everyone now.

If you show the type of maturity and buy in that Dow and others have shown you've earned your place on the list. Players know it takes an entire list to win a premiership not just the 22 (23) that make it out on the field. This streak with so many our has made an impact in the psyche

That’s awesome! Thanks so much!!

I can vouch for this. Overseas for all of Aug. A 1 month subscription was $44. Can watch every match live or on demand. Get access to all the Fox Footy shows too.

Watched the Saints game live in Glasgow.

Arrived early hours of the morning New York time. My son and I still woke up at 5.30am to watch the Melb game live.

Won’t be forgetting these any time soon!

It’s brilliant, used it for 2 months a couple of years ago.
Wish it was an option back in 1999 living in the UK for 12 months, had to go to walkabout inn to watch live one of 2 games for the week or wait every Tuesday for the TNT newspaper to get the results and news which used to consist of 2-3 pages…that’s how it was back then young whipper snappers!!

He might not want to be playing most of that contract in the VFL as a depth player. Hopefully he stays and sees if he gets more opportunities this time round but we do have a very competitive midfield group.

That would be particularly encouraging given the reports at the time that some contracts, including Cripps', were already for less than they could have demanded

Actually, my wife is 5 foot tall*

I guess she is a mini mum...

* yes, really. And I'll show myself out...
I cracked a similar joke about my mum back in 1975 during an English class. Ex Port Melbourne champ Jim Buckley was the teacher whilst playing for West Adelaide at the time. Didn't appreciate my humour and had to spend lunch hour picking up rubbish.
You'll get over it.

Comes off as a very Brian Cook type thing to me. How many times did Geelong players do this over the years? Selwood and Hawkins particularly notes to have played half their careers on massive unders to keep their window reloading.

It's a lot to ask individuals and a group but when you can see tangible evidence of future success some are willing to sacrifice to make it happen.

Could forgive Weiters holding out...

Become a premiership player at this club and you are set for life. Plenty of ways to legally earn extra curricular cash when you hold that title - probably more so than any other club you would say

Anyone know if there’s a sports bar that plays footy in Munich and Vienna? I have to head over there next weekend for a few weeks for work and I don’t think Kayo works?
VPN, and connect to Australian server

Have been doing it from Bali the last 2 weeks, no problems

dow to be offered new 2-3 year deal

Hope this to be true. Have been a massive supporter of the lad since I laid eyes on him on draft night (whilst working in the Collingwood media team as a videographer, of all things!) o_O

His treatment at being dropped despite showing signs, and then repeatedly made the sub has annoyed me so I can only imagine how he feels. Full credit to him for holding his head up and continuing to put in solid performances.

If he was to leave for another club I can guarantee he is one we will regret letting go, so glad to hear news of him being offered another contract as he belongs in our best 22. 💪

Yup, and has shown good character IMO in that he's worked on his deficiencies and never thrown the towel in.

I'm sure Voss and the MC can figure out a way to use him.

Dow has had ample opportunities to leave Carlton and hasn't wanted to. It is very rare to find a kid like him, who is willing to continually be a fringe player, not take big money, go back to the twos, work on his game, take criticisms and constructive feedback and still hold his head high and work.
If the offer is 3 years, it puts him in a position to continue to do this, he obviously loves the club and this team, and has consistently shown he's willing to do what ever is asked of him. It also gives us more leverage for future trade value if in a year or twos time he really does want to move on.

If this deal is what eventuates, then this is one of the biggest signs of a successful culture shift our club has had for many years, in my opinion.
