High draft picks depreciate faster then new cars. Top 10 Pick who hasn't produced:

After 1 Year = Mid - Late 1st
After 2 Years = Late 1st - Early 2nd
After 3 Years = Early 2nd - Mid 2nd
After 4 Years = Mid 2nd - Late 2nd
After 5 Years + = Early 3rd - Late 4th

Depending on what the draftee has shown and exact circumstances
They are like a scratchy. If you don't hit the jackpot straight away they are pretty much worthless.. The stars of the game from the first round generally show their class in their first 2 years.

I am not as excited as most seem to be about prospect of acquiring EHollands.

At this stage of our progress we need established guns to take us to the next level (top 4) now….not maybe/hopefull types.

As far as HFs go we have the injury prones in Martin cunners and now EHollands.

Cottrell is robust least.
Agreed! You need to add three new best 22 players a season as per Collingwood last year. We have players that are injury prone as well. Plus we lose Fisher and Dow (depth). Those who are hanging their hats on internal growth are in for a rude shock. Clubs around us are adding best 22 players. Look no further than Sydney.

Collingwood were the 4th oldest team in the comp going into last season, with far less potential for internal growth than us. I think we are in a different category to them in terms of seeing players already on the list improve further, not to mention Williams returning.

Yeh, it's a valid concern over "where is the improvement coming from?"

Being a bit glass-half-full:
  • Zilliams could essentially be a best 22 "recruit" in 2024
  • First half of 2023 season was terrible, second half excellent. If we carry on playing like the "excellent" version of ourselves we should be finals-bound and challenging for prelim
  • In terms of internal growth, I'd say it's not unreasonable or unrealistic to anticipate better footy from McKay, Kemp, Hollands, De Koning, Motlop, Boyd
  • Conversely, there's precious few who should be in "slowing down" mode. Most other players should be looking to replicate 2023 form at a minimum. Maybe a few overperformed and might regress, but not fall off a cliff.
I think net-net that gives us good hope for being better in 2024 than we were in 2023. Agreed there's no likely breakout star or top-shelf addition likely to catapult us forwards in a single great leap... Over the coming years we should be minding our salary cap and if/when possible trading for immediate impact to get "over the top".

But if I do want to look further than Sydney. Which other clubs are adding a minimum 3 x best 22 players this trade period without losing some best 22???

* are adding best 22 (shit players but best 22), Saints have upgraded the 22 & Sydney.
3 trade requirement is pretty hard as not many clubs have done that. Pies, Lions have improved, everyone else pretty much lose, nil or picks

3?
Adams hasn't been able to get through the last 2 seasons without soft tissue issues causing him to miss finals.
Jordan is depth midfield
Hamlin has barely played senior footy since 2016.
Grundy was a good pick up he so he make 1 good pick up in my book even though I have never been a big fan and always thought of him over rated.

They also traded out a former first rounder who played in the GF last year for a pack of chips after 4 years

Deals are probably done in the sense that multiple contingencies are agreed upon, but waiting on other stuff to finalize

The proposed 4-way was probably waiting on the Henry deal, so could be done early.

Who knows though, things change

It's all well and good to want the club to be more active at the trade table but with a finite amount of assets and cap room to work with, the chances of bringing any established star through the doors were always slim.
Yup that‘s what we said last year too, hopefully there’s a surprise or two for us yet, got the fingers crossed , if not, next year surely will be huge with the Camporeale lads coming onto the list and a Ist Rd pick too , which may well be better than one thinks. The final 8 will be a tough proposition, as our game draw season 2024.

ITKs treading a fine line today...I am sensing the annual tides of discontent swelling, backed by the cold southerly gales of accusation, and some monsoonal downpours of derision.
Nah, deals are done, the social media teams are just angling for the best release time now.

He wasn't petty at Carlton
He hates Carlton now. I used to love him with all my heart. Now: Quite frankly: **** him.

He has narcissistic personality disorder. His continual re-recruitment of players when he moves to the next club is more than just comical, it’s sad. He cannot admit when he’s wrong, ever. He is getting worse as he gets older. He will have no club to go to when he is discarded by the Saints in a few years and will die a clubless sad grumpy old man.

His bitterness toward Carlton couldn’t be any clearer.

It’s fine. Be that way. And get ****ed.
