I think that's more than what he's worth based on what he's shown so far.
F3 would be suitable but I'm also very happy to be proven wrong.

I am just concerned he is being hyped up as the perfect player for us but I'm not sold yet

And FYI I didn't feel that way about George or Acres both "Fringe" players at their clubs.
Every situation is different.

1. He's very clearly not an SPS type - can kick more than 15m!

(and he can make and stick a tackle)

2. He went at #7, after being a potential #1, but slid due to an ACL.
3. CV19 effected his recovery from the ACL.

I think the aim for Cunners, is to get a full preseason under his belt and spend majority of the time in the midfield in 2024. He would offer a big point of difference to our midfield. The question is whether he has the tank to do so.
I don't think Cunners is a pure midfielder. I don't think he's good enough to play there fulltime. He will get caught out if tried

HF is his position and assuming he stays injury free he could become something special there

I don't want to get my hopes up with him because his injury history is shocking and I was certain he was going to be delisted this year until he got a run on

He has great hands, works well in congestion, has burst speed and a very good kick. His only downside is he goes awol. Need to put him in somewhere to hunt for the ball

All points made are valid but there have been many a players with similar type stories who's junior form just doesn't convert over to seniors

Having a tank is fantastic but if the skills aren't there then it's pointless.

We saw that with Cottell, who could run for days but didn't impact the game until this year. Cottrell at least was a rookie who we knew had alot to learn

Hollands is 21 year old top 7 draft pick who's shown little since

I hope my doubts are wrong because I always want players to succeed

Watch the VFL Grand final a few weeks back....

Speed ✅

In my opinion he works better when he has time on his side to make the right decision.

When he's in congestion he reminds me of Fisher who gets caught out far to often. He just forces it to much

And as you said he goes missing far too often.

As a Half Forward he can put all his skills to use and be incredibly damaging. Martin is the perfect example of that. Damaging, slippery and fast with big score impact, whether its through him scoring or creating something for someone else.

For me his skillset and engine isnt good enough to be in the midfield

Racking up possessions in the VFL is one thing but converting that to the AFL is another. We had prime examples on own list that were debated about all year round on this forum

One game for a season does not sell me even if it is a VFL GF

I will have my hesitations until he plays and as I said I want to be wrong in my misgivings because I want our players to succeed.

Also, at half forward it doesn't matter so much if he goes missing and only has 10 possessions if he makes them damaging ones. Can't afford to have that in the midfield.

He isn't costing us much, let's just give him a go first before worrying too much about it.

Walsh was definitely the favourite but only 7 of 13 other recruiters would have gone for him (if you believe this):

Who knows if we'd been better stocked in midfield we may have gone another way. Either way it wasn't the toughest call but you can't just write it off.

Plenty were claiming the Weitering selection was a fail when he had his struggles in year 2. Look at McGrath, McCartin, Boyd, Watts, etc. - no pick is a guarantee so excluding them from the discussion is just slanting the argument to suit yourself.
Havent got a dog in the fight, I think SOS did a good job overall, so doesnt suit my argument one way or another. Pick 1 is a freehit at a no ball tho, which has to be taken into account, even if youre not as ruthless as I'm suggesting.

Didnt know that about Walsh! Imagine 7 of 13 may well read 12 of 18. Probably a percentage that reflects success of pick 1?

Overall was a big fan of SOS's approach to the draft and rebuild generally. Did a lot to move on big portions of a terrible list. Has probably done well now to snatch Dow back too.

Forever grateful for our spine. Peace

I'd say no. A little of the pace fitness wise, and doesn't come in with a defined role as opposed to say Acres.
He has a whole preseason to build off his already AFL fitness base. There are draftees that are able to play round one and they wouldnt have the same base as EH has. Sure he may not be elite AFL fit, but he is not at draftee level.
Plenty of time IMO for him to be ready for RD 1.
He just has to want it.
But he has to train the house down IMO to be given the opportunity. This will reveal itself fairly early IMO or not at all

All rests on the moustache for me. He turns up day one with a clean upper lip and I think he means business.
