I don't really have an issue with Hardwick in this situation (I generally don't like him and think he's a w@nker). Fwiw he didn't specifically say he was burnt out. He said he couldn't cook the sausage the 1001st way, meaning he didn't feel like his message could get across to the group in a meaningful way anymore.

You cant be burnt out from one job/company too. He may well have been tired of that playing group, or going to the same building every day, footy in Melbourne etc. but that doesn't mean you're done across the board and can't do it anymore. Players who move often say they love getting out of the pressurised bubble that is Melbourne, so it stands to reason a coach could feel the same.

Also, fwiw, he's had a 3 month holiday overseas (more or less). It isn't unreasonable to suggest you'd feel pretty refreshed after that. Living on the GC too is hardly taxing, particularly as he hasn't actually started the hard nitty gritty yet. Well, it's not taxing so long as you live south of Nerang/Mudgeeraba and don't have to use the m1 these days... there's a reason all the footy fellas live south!

I would understand they'd be cranky about him poaching a few people though, that I get. I don't have an issue with the "burnt out" saga.

You’re right about one thing, he is a w***er!!!

I would also not be surprised if he tee’d it up before he left!

Love love love the idea of pulling in Dutchy's big brother. Given the Suns' goals, I think we can strike a deal. Just gotta get him to nominate us (surely not that hard given our recent rise).

HIGHLY talented and - now - out of favour. Given Hardwick is coming in, now's the time to grab him as he's not entirely established but will soon have the chance under a new coach.

Could easily develop into an A grade half-forward/midfielder with talent above what we already have in that area.

If we lost Fisher which seems likely, he'd be an immediate replacement with a high ceiling.

Interesting to see what his price would be though considering he is still under contract.

GC would want a pick this year considering their need for picks to get their Academy players. We'd likely have to switch next years second for one this year.

Not necessarily. Once GCS trade out their current pick 4, they should have plenty of points for their academy boys - so any deal involving Hollands would likely be separate to that (depending on which club he nominates).

They also have an academy boy coming through in 2024 named Leonardo Lombard who looks like he's going to be a gun, so they may be looking at future picks to accumulate points.

Becoming clearer by the year that they need to change the Rules for Academy players and Father Sons to make it a free for all in the first round.

It's never fair for all clubs and with the flexibility and creativity of pick movement, clubs are getting these gun players for chips.

Even if only the top 10. Absolute joke the Dogs got JUH and Darcy B2B despite not being even a bottom 6 team.

You shouldn't lose a Father Son because they're too good.

Father son rule is fine so the academy one it’s just all these free hits Gold Coast are getting as part of the assistance package still

In terms of league integrity the F/S/Academies are inherently compromising. F/S is purely a feel good rule, nothing else. While it's fine if you're in favour of that feel good rule, then we must also accept that the draft is already inherently compromised because of it and we're ok with that.

So, why is the compromise that benefits the small interstate teams in non-AFL territories wrong? It grows the game and keeps those interstate teams filled with local talent instead of Vic talent that has been shown time and again to want to leave.

Father / son is a spectacular nuance of our system. For mine it stays forever.

We are about to be “advantaged” by the Camporeale boys and two years later Andy Walker’s son Cody is probably even better. When discussing the advantage, we also need to consider the disadvantage of committing to the Campo twins. So much expectation and excitement getting Lucas and Ben, yet we currently have Acres, Doc, Cotts, Dutchy and Binns playing their prime position.

Our supporter group, us will insist if the boys play well in their top age year, we draft them. Yet with the number of list changes we are likely to find. Bare minimum, three, we would be restricted to two draftees and a rookie upgrade (or two).
Our ability to build will be somewhat stymied. (That is why this year’s draft is critical)

Bulldogs have another decent or better father son this year in Croft another 200cm forward. Is there room for him?

The Academies are the killer. They are not designed or expected historically to produce multiple first rounders. Gold Coast have three absolute first rounders this year. A generational key forward, a quality ruck/ key swingman and a midfielder projecting to be top echelon despite being quite small. They also have another mid/utility in Graham who should at worst be a second rounder. On top of draft concessions, they are laying the pillars of a dynasty on top of a current high quality, underperforming, list.

There need to be a sliding scale, that multiple academy picks get lesser discount rather than the blanket 20%. The academies have done a good job, they have gone from driving a system as it was intended to grow the game and their respective clubs, to now be an avenue for exploitation. Wait for the melts if Hodge’s son nominates as academy over father/son with Hawthorn.
