Clayton Oliver is the wrong footballer for us.

Too many similar types.

Been whispers he's unhappy at Melbourne for years though

It's seemingly gone around every year.

I distinctly remember one off-season where it was rumoured we were into him and chasing him - not by the media but by an ITK or two here. Maybe 3 yrs ago? I think it was just before they won the flag.

If the rumors of Melbourne shopping Oliver around are true, I wonder what it's doing to Oliver's mindset about sticking around at Melbourne? I know I would p1$$ed at the club and some others would as well.

Will second the Petty is a gun thought. He has the capacity to turn the Demons around if he can stay in the park.

The IF is the stumbling block. Bloke has some injury issues that preclude him from being a banker. He is a very talented and smart footballer. The skills on display have been top notch. He has gone from being the bloke that allowed May and Lever to do their less accountable intercept thing, to a a genuine, quality key forward. Pity for them that their coaches are very ordinary.
Petty apparently kicked 1 goal this year against teams that finished in the top 8. Might be a bit early for the genuine quality key forward call.

He's actually just an O.k. defender who had a day out against the Tiges who had no KPD.

I mean on that basis I'm not sure why Simon Beaumont isn't in the hall of fame.

I suspect mckay to be back next year to his normal self
Agree.....not sure where this idea of trading him comes from.

We have 2 big key forwards who don't have great injury records and we want to get rid of one of them. Harry had 60 scoring shots in 2023 and if you count the ones that went out on the full or didn't make it he probably had 80 shots in what a lot of people are calling a poor season.

A big preseason and a bit of help from a specialist goal kicking coach I think he will be back to his best.

Had coffee with Teague.

Sam McClure reported it

Reading between the lines of what old Tom Morris reported this morning, it sounds like the Melbourne players have had a gutfull of Oliver. Apparently big Max even took him into his home earlier this to provide support, but it appears he may have run his race at the club.

He also reported that there have been meetings of senior players at potential rival clubs to discuss whether he would fit into their culture - or something along those lines. It sounded like Morris knows more than he reported (being close to the club), but it seems that they'd be happy to let Oliver go - for the 'right price' of course.

With the "buyer beware" neon sign hanging around his neck, Melbourne may not get the trade capital they'd be looking for, especially with the massive contract that would come with him.

He mentioned about 4 clubs who could be connected with a trade - Carlton was one of them. Not sure if he was just spitballing though.

just on Harry - yes - goal kicking off this year, but career best averages all over the place other than that

not a disaster when the other key forward is winning the coleman

Massive pre-season ahead for Ash Hansen constructing a functional forward line. That forward connection is clearly the final piece of our overall game that requires improvement. Harry & Charlie should be, and are good enough, to be averaging a minimum of five goals a game between them next season.

And, as well all know, need to get more goals out of Fogarty, Owies & co. Pressure is great, scoreboard impact is the next layer.

reading between the lines:
Bad, selfish attitude - teammates & coaches have had enough.
If they can turn an Oliver trade into effectively Harley Reid it sounds like they're happy to explore it.

Norf would have to be the dumbest club in the land to trade for Oliver.

The only half decent thing they've got as a team is their midfield. Defence is so bad I reckon I'd be capable of kicking a few vs the spuds

Think of this for a team in 2024

K.Dawson A.Corr D.Tucker
M.Bergman H.Sheezel Z.Fisher
B.Scott C.Oliver C.Taylor
W.Phillips E.Ford T.Thomas
P.Curtis N.Larkey C.Zurhaar
T.Xerri LDU G.Wardlaw

T.Powell C.Comben H.Greenwood K.Turner

They need to bring in talent in every position outside of their midfield and FF.
Please include all players when offering your “learned” opinions on opposing teams.

Fair enough leaving GriffinLogue off with a recent ACL

Highly regarded, high draft pick despite ACL Brayden George is due well over a year from injury, Coleman-Jones a talented but troubled forward ruck who will be a staple if plays to potential. Stephenson highly talented flake is historic best 22 as well.
and
how did their co-captains Simpkin and McDonald disappear in to the ether?

Darcy Gardiner would be stupid not having a chat to other clubs including us
Especially now Doedee has nominated Brisbane

There will be a lot more effort on here to get Clayton Oliver to Carlton than there will be from Nick Austin and Michael Agresta. They would not be giving this one a second thought and are only thinking of realistic options.

If Harry just gets his goalkicking accuracy to a league average % he can be the best forward in the league with everything else he is elite at.

If I was looking to take a big-name mid with off-field issues, I'd prefer Smith gives us much more than Oliver.
