I think we're getting a slow burn as Melbourne offloads him.

The club not denying the rumours, silence from Oliver, the most linked in journalist at Melbourne backing it up.

They might want lots of picks, but they are dumping a lot of salary and it might open the door to getting a key forward they need.

He's burned some bridges it seems

Crows well positioned to make it happen…..
Pick 9, F1, McAdam, Pick 21, Pick 24 and Doedee compo pick to play with !!

There aren’t many (if at all) clubs than can facilitate a trade for Oliver. The trade value back to the Dees is way too high.

Essendon could. Might have the cap space too. Say it is end of round 1 compo pick for Gresham which gets traded back to them for Dylan Shiel. Circa pick 20.

Pick 8, 20 + future 1st could get it done.

Same for Crows - pick 9, 21 + future 1st.

They’re the only two clubs who I see having BOTH the cap space and draft hand (right now - things can change quickly with the draft hand).

We actually need to get some good players this off season. We have some holes

I think we lack leg speed. Saad no longer runs at top speed with the ball. Our mids are more inside mids and the wingers are more endurance machines than burt speed types.

The small forwards go alright but the rest of the ground not so much.

Our mids got beaten for pace against Brisbane but also GWS.

First trade period in over a decade where I hardly care at all.

Our list is in great shape and we don't need someone to come in to put us in the window.

Were already in the window.

Absolutely love it.

It’s not a premiership list…

We are in the window to play in prelims…

NOT WIN THEM…

Do we have a quality ruckman?
Do we have a quality small forward?
Do we have a good CHB?
Are we quick enough through the midfield?

Do the pies get better next year? Yes (Daicos through the middle)
Do the Lions get better? Yes (Ashcroft through the middle)

1 more A grader and some speed…

They also got McStay and Frampton.

Although starting to doubt if they actually got Frampton or just a 2m cardboard cutout...

This guy would get more possies than Frampton did in the granny

To take that next step is problematic. I think we only need to add one or two elements of the below. Cant ask for everything but 2 of the following could see us improve enough to get the chocolates.

  • TDK needs to progress another 10% to then standalone removing the need for Pitto (leads to more ground speed / more player quality)
  • We potentially need a 'Petty' type in our side to free up Weitering more (debatable as required for some opponents and not others)
  • The midfield mix really just needs 1 more two way runner who has an elite inside 50 kick. What is problematic is that I'd drop Cripps out for that player. Cripps has carried us but now gets banged up pretty quickly, cant run defensively, and is our worst kick going inside 50 let alone decision maker with ball in hand. Cerra/Hewett can manage the inside ball role.
  • Voss teaches the side turnover footy. We are wasting talent in Saad/Docherty who just run and blaze away. There is no eloquence to what they are doing...just high quality footballers trying hard.
I actually don't think Cripps is as bad a kick as lots say. I think this season in particular he lowers his eyes hitting up shorter passes more than he ever has and he hits them way more than he misses. It was just about his best kicking season imo

Every team has holes - we can always add talent and improve the least, but we are definitely ready to contend for flags.

Jeeze I hope the Crows don't get Clarry, they should have made finals this year and adding the best inside mid in the comp will make them very scary.
Agree with this, first thing I thought when I read Adelaide was how it's probably the absolute best fit for player and club.

A mid 4 of O'Brien, Oliver, Laird & Dawson is elite.

6 million dollarbuck contract...sounds like it'll be a Brody Grundy type trade to me.

So short sighted.

So Brisbane and Collingwood get better because they have development in their players, but we don't in ours?

Our quality ruckman will be TDK.
Our quality small forwards will come in Motlop and Durdin. They are still kids.
CHB (maybe) - we did fine with what we put out on the park. We had the third lowest PA for 2023.
We are quick enough. You don't necessarily need running speed. We move the ball out of the midfield fast enough that we scored more than anyone else through clearance.

Did you see the list that just won the flag?
Notice the quality of some of the blokes who got medals on Saturday?

We desperately need our small forwards to improve and to provide scoring if we're to win a premiership. Think that's our biggest weaknesses in finals.

Pies have 3 or 4 who can bob up for multiple goals any given week. So too does Brisbane. Beyond Jack Martin we don't have any that we can trust to do the same so if Harry and Charlie are playing hurt - which they were - or are well held - which they were - too much is relied upon too few.

Both grand finalists might carry some "spuds" but the list structure is right for both of them to deliver in the finals. I argue that we have as much of not more AFL level players but the structure isn't quite right at the moment.

Would change quickly if Motlop, Durdin, Owies and Cuners can find another level or we're able to fill that gap externally.

Cripps towards the back end of the season/finals was hitting targets inside 50.
