Thanks for the insights. What are we giving to potentially get pick 12 from GCS? Next year's first? Something else?

Motlop, who gets a real rough time on here, has way, way more talent than Owies. Had a great year last year, stellar pre-season but sounds like his injury was mismanaged. Small frame, battling niggles, down on confidence & playing in the Seniors, tough gig for someone in the early stages of their career.

I made the conscious effort to watch Motlop in isolation a few times late in the season...the bloke just isn't nearly desperate enough. Can be when he wants to...but I noted many times where he'd just jog when other players were clearly gut running. Not sure if it's a fitness or mental thing...whatever it is, he needs to fix it otherwise he'll be forever ordinary.

I don't judge a player on the back of half a year injured.

No chance of ever being their best self.

Agree Fantasia at 29 is probably done, Motlop not exhilarating reckon both will be gone by end 2025.
Durdin has potential but must gets his shoulders sorted and regain afl match fitness.
Long term , I see Durds as best of the remaining small forwards.

With cumming’s choosing the crows and Perryman looks like landing at Collingwood wonder if port will trade Houston now

I find it quite amazing that the majority of “assessments” of our small forwards do not mention Zac Williams, Lachie Fogarty, Matt Cottrell, or mediums like hybrid Elijah Hollands or the X-factor of Ashton Muir who is verging on third tall.

I have plenty of faith in Durdin (if we get his bloody shoulder right and don’t play him winged) and even Motlop who I can be critical of, but has excellent goal sense and plenty of potential.

I am hoping that the Coaches pick of Fantasia gives us a few clues before stressing our salary cap, albeit with a very good player in Houston.

Hoping we add a quality player to our small forward mix in the draft. The only mooted (realistic) trade option I would consider would be Konstanty for no more than a token pick.

I still think they’ll need to trade him to gain the assets to deal for Luko.

They have Sinn who they invested a lot of draft currency to acquire so I think they’ll pump games into him next year in that Houston role. They also have Farrell. They have Logan Evans. They have Bergman. Not to mention Burgoyne actually looked his best (and played his best game) when they moved him to half back against the Hawks. They’re quite loaded for half backs.

According to his father… we’ve shown by far the most interest in Christian Moraes so far.

He trained a few sessions with Hawthorn’s NGA academy before the AFL said he didn’t qualify.
Hope we are just checking options around the mark. Not enamoured by his carnival, although do concede while playing, he was not given much time in preferred roles. Smacks of a bit each way as a mid/forward option.

Earlier links to Lindsay and Dattoli suggest we are looking at hybrids who could play multiple roles, possibly as opposed to WalshistheGOAT fixation Berry (yeah I do like him too mate)

I've been quite critical of Motlop this season for this reason in the main. So many people are talking about his goal kicking and crumbling etc but that's not the issue.

It's his lack of intent.

The number of times you notice Motlop get to a contest or position just as the ball leaves the area, was frankly, ridiculous this season.

He's consistently out of position

He also sets up in the wrong spot quite often when we are trying to set up a zone. Leaving a gap for the oppo.

I'm not sure if he's lazy, doesn't understand where he's meant to be or it's just a fitness thing but it's an issue that needs to be rectified.

According to posters with various levels of 'ITK' info we've got links to Lindsay, Moraes, Dennis and Dattoli so far. Lindsay link coming from one of his close family friends, same with Clancy Dennis.

Personally would be disappointed to pass on Berry and Hotton but theres plenty of water to go under the bridge til draft night.

Moraes is an interesting prospect though.
