To play devils advocate. It’s a risk & it may work, it may blow up.
The assumption that Geelong will just fix clarry everything will be rosey & he will be back to his best isn’t accurate. They failed with Jack Steven for example.
Then with Jack Martin, they may get him right, but he may only be a 5-10 game a year burst player, like with Carlton & struggle to stay on the park. Been countless examples of clubs thinking they will get a player right & it not working. Just as many as successful.
Bailey Smith, that 2021 finals season was unreal, then the first half of 2021. However the rest of 2022 (after his off field stuff) wasn’t great, neither was 2023. No where near the top level we saw in that finals series. To the point where WB moved him out of the middle & he couldn’t break in. We are assuming they are getting the 2021 finals series Bailey Smith, but it’s been 3.5 years and a knee reco since we saw that form. Wouldn’t be the first young player to take the comp by storm, then fall away with off field stuff. See Jaidyn Stephenson. I think most after his first season & finals campaign we all thought he could be anything. When was the last time most footy fans outside of North even thought of him.
You then add their lack of ruckman, an aging Dangerfield, aging Cameron. They’d want to get them all fit and firing next year & win it. But it’s a lot of glass half full & assumptions that they can make those 3 players back to their best.
If I was Geelong I’d do it too, they show a pattern of being able to, however it’s no guarantee
On Geelong board now that potentially SDK may be on the moveYep an injury prone player,a cultural deadbeat and someone who REALLY loves to have a good time.
Won’t make top 4.
