So this year's first for Houston. Maybe we throw a player in. Do Port have a need for Kennedy or Owies?

F1 for Bailey Smith. There's the pace in our midfield.

Geez, we'd suddenly look a lot more dynamic if we could pull this off.

Every time I see this Bailey Smith to Carlton discussion I think of when Arr0w drafted him in our phantom draft with pick 1 ahead of Walsh.

Then the whole board shot him down.

How about them apples?

I like Smith but Walsh the better player so far in their careers - still wouldn't take anyone from that draft over him

I still can’t believe that Shaun Mannagh managed to go un drafted to 26, all clubs with picks overlooked him in the MSD last year, only for Geelong to pick him up in the 2nd round. Looked dangerous again tonight, there’s types are out there if you’re good enough to know what you’re looking at.

Only crazy clubs draft small forwards with a high pick.

Seems to have worked out for cats and hawks tho

Lol. Walsh is vanilla tho.

I guess smith is the flavouring powder on top.

I'm not saying he's better but would be cool if Arrow got his pick of that draft to the club.

Had 15 touches at 46% and kicked 1.2, with 5 clangers. Thought he had a complete lack of composure tonight. Even his goal was a miskick. Reckon he’s a decent player, but clearly has deficiencies that potentially held him back from being on an AFL list earlier

Lame judging on one game. Was excellent last week. Am certain there were more highly regarded/drafted players with worse games than Mannagh tonight.

He'd still get shot down, and rightfully so.

Harsh on Arr0w here…

He is right as both have had a massive impact on their sides, especially in a premiership year (only one player has one)!

Jury is still out as both have got injury concerns, it will come down to who is managed better. That in it self is the red flag for me, one coming back from a knee, the other unknown back issues which could flare up at any time..

Who’s the premiership player?

Arrow really rated Smith. Rightfully so.

Walsh has been better to date though.

I do remember a lot of talk at the time about turning pick 1 into two top 10 picks and trying to take Rozee and Smith.

Now wouldn't that have been something

Just the other day in a bar. I expect to see the same energy on here about that.

INB4 “Smith is exactly what we need. Can’t have all good guys on the team, need some rough ones as well.”

Smith will be going to Geelong.
They have been into him for a long time, l believe he would have been a good fit for us, but it won't be happening

He was excellent against Port. I’m not saying he’s a bad player. But he’s a good player with clear flaws, which could potentially explain why he hadn’t been picked up

Really want us to attack the trade period and bring in multiple players…

In reality it’ll be Haynes and disappointment…
I would not be devastated if we just trade Haynes and take four or five good and strategic draftees. We need KPD progression, dynamic small forward option, ideally classy distributing mid/utility and ideally an elite rebounding type. Would love to find a “bridging” KPD as a rookie to hopefully upgrade Sam Durdin (who remains on the list)

FWIW I don’t agree with the group think that Kempy will be deployed forward. His days in defence are not done, given logical list progression. My preference would be for Kemp to have a “utility” year, being used in every third of the ground at times. Reckon Lemmey should start 2025 playing Key Back in the twos to give us options(hopefully).

How many spots do we get? So far we have not freed up any rookie spots, with Lord replacing Mirkov. Boyd requiring upgrade should create one spot. Hopefully Duffy can replace Akuei on Cat B list rather than take a Cat A spot, or we will have no rookie vacancies. (Unless Durdin and/or M.Carroll is delisted)

Currently only three main list vacancies. Generally accepted J.Carroll and Owies will move on. Then there is the noise around Kennedy and Young.

Currently banking on five vacancies.

Haynes (would prefer genuine KPP, but Nick likely a good mentor and has a bit left)
Lindsay/Berry
Dennis/O’Farrell
Ben Camporeale
Boyd upgrade
Lucas Camporeale (maybe gets to rookie). I am not 100% convinced we find the room for Lucas, although am happy he is good enough.

We are a spot short to get that done(if Chugga and Young stay) For mine we move Orazio to the rookie list to create that room. Or change the Main list/rookie list balance.

That is without all of the rumoured and wish list trades in here.

I am convinced Austin is true to his word and more likely than not to resist pressures from Vossy and others. I can’t see many avenues to be creative and create more list vacancies. We do not have the vacancies or salary cap to make big acquisitions without creating extreme pressures for the foreseeable future.

Completely different types, on and off field
I was with you on that selection. Either were great selections on pre draft showings. I thought Smith had better disposal and a bit more X-factor at the time.

Interesting that at the time Smith was portrayed as the manic professional. Weighing food etc with strict diet, absolutely driven. Not sure the Bulldogs “culture” and a coach refusing to play him inside mid helped much. FWIW, I am a little concerned for Ryley Sanders given his handling through the year. Proved he could “rack them up”, while he clearly has some “learnings”, he would be a little “miffed” and being overlooked for role players while getting big numbers in the VFL.
