Message this morning from someone I trust that gets most things right. In response to questions I asked a day ago

1. SDK - No but we will always ask. He is happy at Cats
2. Houston - Port would have to move a fair bit on their position. Picks the issue not money
3. Papley - No
4. Looking at "player" to take over salary and get cheap. If his club signs their target he may be "forced" out and we will take contract
5. Petracca - Just won't happen and we could never satisfy asking price
6. Graham Wright spoken to about CEO role. Not interested in football role
7. A number of a DFA's being interviewed and having medicals
8. Perfect world we will get 2-3 first round picks


My comment: I know people would like to hear "big names" but I just can't see it. The messages to me have been consistent and for months. Draft picks, Campo twins and some targeted cheap trades or DFA's is our focus

I am really happy with this approach.

Not likely, with his connections ferrisb just makes u “disappear”, if your lucky u get the token “horse head in the bed” as a warning first but his dry cleaning bills were racking up, so it’s best to just behave

Just reading up on TPP and additional player payments. It seems to state that it’s the afl discretion to approve additional funding from a teams sponsor. Hence the removal of judds in 2012 after getting extra from 2008-2011. As smith already has an existing arrangement with cotton on it will only come up if that arrangement is altered once he states he’s signing with Geelong (today). If Geelong were prepared for this they would have got him a nice pay rise from cotton on throughout this season under the proviso he signs for 2025. It’s going to be messy for the afl and if the media get a hold of a sniff of this (it’s already going to look insane if smith and Oliver both come to Geelong) this will be a huge story over the coming weeks of the trade period.

The AFL can’t stop someone earning (to a certain point) but in this case of his Cotton On commitments increase he can validate that with the extra side income. As this is prior contract, the T&C’s should remain the same on remuneration for output.
Getting murkier however.
