Don't get this St Kilda entitlement with Kemp.

I repeat, he is a contracted player, happy at Carlton, hasn't requested a trade.

To get him to even look towards the door, the Saints need to offer up big overs.

I like Kemp, versatile and generally plays out of his best position but another who stays on the park.
We seem to be ridding ourselves of durable players?
Yep and at 23 he has another 10 years ahead of him. That’s an important age demographic in our team I’d be reluctant to let go even for a pick 25.

Let's be real for a minute... I don't think we're necessarily interested in trading away Kemp. More of a "show us what you're offering and we might consider it" kind of situation...

I don't think we should trade him because if we start losing talls, we're screwed. But I would also look at it if the price tag was too good to be true...

If you're Austin, what is the minimum pick you'd require in order to make you consider the trade?

Kemp has more value than John Noble yet teams will scoff at anything above a third rounder.

Tend to agree.

Kemp's best attribute (to us) is his flexibility, but where does he definitely fit in the 22?

For me, his spot up forward would be largely dependent on how Moir goes.
Think Moir and kemp are both on for the same forward line. Moir and kemp both run like smalls. There's no pressure loss there. Kemp's about to hit his stride too. As exciting as Moir is he's a way off still. Especially expecting a full season. Kemp's got third picked in the forward line. With 2 smalls and Moir/ elijah rotating

I don’t normally rate what Brereton says but I think he nails this about the draft.

Having a pick inside the top 3 can get you a player you can build a side around perhaps an all time great, having a pick around pick 12 gets you a good player.

What not have the opportunity in getting another Bont/Cripps instead of a Bruhn/Gibcus

Big difference.

The point is sound but you've undermined it by using Cripps as the example, given where he was picked.

But overall, yes. You're much, much more likely to get a generational player inside the top 5, an indeed the top 3.

As a genuine question, do you think the loss of Kemp hurts our performance next season?

Imo I think it does. Showed genuine versatility this year.

I'm all for sustained success, but if the club is continually looking at future potential as opposed to "strike now", I fear we stay just "good" and not "great".

I don't think the loss of Kemp will hurt our performance next season any more, and probably less, than the loss of Kennedy.

Some get a little carried away with his game against W/C, a team that didn't want to play that game, and even then Kennedy playing a similar position got almost twice as many touches and kicked 2 goals.

I'm not selling him short, there is an upside to him but one swallow doesn't make a summer. If the price is right I'm happy to take the same punt we have with Kennedy,

Maybe, but we are going to want to fit another genuine runner in there like Doc or Cotts.

I guess whether we trade him or not will answer the question. The other outgoing trades I can understand from a speed improvement perspective, but Kemp is quick for his size, so way more valuable.
