Need to remember after bids being matched most likely will end up being 15 and 17 on draft night. Need to factor in Ashcroft, Lombard and Kako bids.

Those players aren’t available to anyone except the clubs they’re tied to, I don’t know why anyone includes them and tries to make out the picks will get worse

Seems like many are pleased if we get 3 and lose 12 14 and Owies.
To me that seems like us being done over.

Feel free to try and convince me otherwise.

Owies could have walked to the PSD or been taken as a DFA, not much value for a player of his type.
We also picked up some extra late picks which will ensure we're good to match bids for Ben and Lucas Campo.

Pick 12 and 14 vs Pick 3 is down to preference, really. Nothing inherently wrong with thinking we should have kept the later picks.

My view is that one of those two picks, statistically, won't work out. Pick 3 might be a bust too (ie. Dow), but is also a good chance of being a game-changer.

What I like about it is that there are a handful of midfielders vying for early selection that have traits we need. Draper is express, Reid is an elite distributor, Smith racks up a billion touches, cuts through traffic and uses the ball well, Smillie is a Cripps who can kick.

The players at 12-14 have some good traits, but a few of them have (as you'd expect) big question marks as well, Travaglia has a good turn of speed but his disposal is a bit suspect and his best position is probably wing (where we've stocked up on kids already). Lindsay is a good user of the ball but to my eye can be quite fumbly at ground level. Tauru and Trainor could be good defensive options, but Trainor has concussion concerns and Tauru isn't really KPP size. Hotton could have been good picks for our forward line, but has had his share of injuries.

The "one" that I'd have loved is Berry.

So Berry plus a "maybe" player, vs a top 3 midfielder with pace and/or good disposal.

Depending on what happens with Richmond’s other trades I suspect we may be doing a pick trade to slide back down the order but end up with two inside top 20.

Just going off what Austin said previously-two inside 20 and the campo
If we’re doing that we should have kept 12+14

Can't help but feel that WCE are getting smashed in this trade. 14 for Baker is pretty good business for Richmond and getting pick 3 and some late points for pick 12, 14 and a player we were dumping anyway seems way to good to be true.

They can blame Hawthorn for really ****ing them sideways by trading 14. Had Hawthorn kept 14 I can almost assure you that rationally West Coast would have ended up making a trade today whereby:

Hawthorn: Barrass

West Coast: Baker

Richmond: 14

With a few minor picks would have moved around.

Instead Hawthorn giving us pick 14 has put the Eagles into a no-win situation and now they have to trade back if they want to stay in the draft.

Also, fwiw, based on what Twomey said, Port should be taking pick 2 for Houston and sprinting

No. North would have considered moving 2 for two picks (12 an 14), giving one to Port for Houston and keeping the other.

If anything, Twomey's revelation just shows how disinterested in Houston we were. He was always our backup plan.

I think those comments from Austin would have been made on the basis that moving into the top 3 seemed pretty unattainable at the time.

Having traded into the top 3 with two first rounders, I don't think we'd then move back down...yet.

Caveat here - if the player we really want at Pick 3 goes at Pick 2, and we reckon our next preference could last til, say Pick 6....maybe we do a trade on draft night. We're assuming Richmond end up with Pick 6 - maybe that and Pick 20 for Pick 3 is an option, but I think we'd want to be incredibly confident of getting the player we want at 6 before making the move.

Get the feeling it may be something like Carroll to Freo for 30.

Carroll was a pick 41.

He has played 21 in 3 years (including 9 as sub on/off this year).

He has shown some nice glimpses, but hasn't set the world on fire.

He is out of contract, we have a full-ish midfield and somewhat of a list squeeze.

If Carroll gets us anything under 50, I'll be absolutely stunned.

Yep. Always felt this way given the vibe I was getting from Austin.

Never ruled ourselves out of the race for Houston, but the priority was always the draft and evidently, getting the best pick possible.

Agree. I'm surprised we didn't throw him into this trade to be honest. I suppose that means West Coast have evaluated him and decided against pursuing him.

NMFC still after #13 with their F1 out there + some.
Could MFC swap with NMFC for pick# 2 and others?
Still options out there.
