Brad Scott seems to be a similar option to Ross.
Got a lot out of some bog ordinary players, although he made prelims instead of GFs.

I just can't see Scott knocking back continual progression through the AFL ranks to go back to being a senior coach.
They will have him as a candidate for a SHocking type role surely.

No from me to Buckley. He seems to be an alright coach but his lack of experience outside of Collingwood is a concern.
For the ones suggesting him as a Senior Assistant, I don't think he's going to knock back big $$$ in the media to be an assistant coach again.
Will be the top job or nothing.

Brad Scott with some quality assistants would be a good choice IMO.

Club has apparently made contact with Bucks today.
One of the ITK’s did mention that we were doing some final checks on Buckley but Ross remains in the box seat.

Personally whilst Buckley is a decent coach, he’s got too much risk attached to coach Carlton: being ex-Collingwood and all the off-field rubbish that happened in his time at the pies. I’m thinking the club is just doing some due diligence and giving the public perception that we haven’t yet made up our minds. Ross is definitely the safer option and has more runs on the board.

If someone offers him a squad place he'll probably jump at it. Doubt we would.

He has a squad place. It's a rookie spot but there's not much difference these days between the main and rookie lists.

He no longer has to wait for a long term injury to a team mate to be elevated to the main list nor does he have to be on the main list to be eligible for senior selection.

I think the only real difference now between a spot on the main list and on the rookie list relates to the percentage of salary that falls inside the cap vs that which falls outside of it. That's not a difference that concerns him - he gets paid the same amount either way.

If someone offers him a one or two year deal I doubt he'd entertain moving. A much bigger contract in tenure or wage, sure. But again, not sure those offers would come.

Listening to the interview Luke Sayers did this morning with Tim Watson and Kane Cornes, Kane asked Luke if Clarko is completely out of the running and Luke said he would love to talk to Alastair and wouldn’t confirm if his talked to him or not ....

Really curious if the 'process' for selecting our new coach is genuine or just window dressing, and Lyon is basically a lock already.
Might sound strange but I wouldn’t mind it either way.. the market for coaches is so small, everyone talks in the industry and the public nature of the job means that coaches resume is basically common knowledge..

What I like is that sayers is making things happen. If it fails, it will be his sword to fall on. We have had mediocracy for too long.

Bit of both, I reckon.

When you're in the market for an experienced senior coach, the list of candidates isn't long and the list of candidates who want the job is even shorter.

Lyon a clear favourite, Clarko would have trumped him, but anyone else has a lot of work to do to sell themselves.

I didnt mean that specifically. Sorry. The Marchbank bit was just musing about what could have been.

I see Gov as the intercepting third tall, and I think we need to replace Jones in the 22, not get him a back up in the ressies. Weitering, ?????? and Gov as the tall defenders.

We do need to find a replacement for Jones now, so perhaps Riccardi, Ballenden types could be targeted, who can play both ends, so it would allow Jones to finish his career as a 3rd tall defender. I would then target a KPD in the draft

Don’t fool yourself, decision has been made on the hiring part. When it will be announced is the question I think you are asking.

It’s the optics i.e. has to look like we followed a process. There are some good candidates out there, but they won’t be entertained.

If the club's decision is Ross Lyon, then just appoint him and stop the dicking around.

Agree.

His ability as a coach can't be questioned
