It's not just the criticisms of Cripps. It's also the cries that he requires more support.

More support in better assistants? The club tried. He rejected it. That's on him.

More support in other aspects?

For all of the faults of the board what it really amounts to is a self-admission he requires training wheels.

We don't know what support he is eluding too and whether it was given

Very few would disagree that Cripps has had a shocking 2 seasons.

But this is not coming from honest critique; this is coming from the scorched earth policy Teague and Pickering are taking.
Personally think those comments are on Pickering and Pickering alone. Find it hard to believe that Teague would endorse those comments being made publicly, particularly when he’s fighting so hard for his job and winning the PR battle.

Pickers is just a greasy rat. Nothing more to it IMO

Because they just changed the game from chess to snooker.
I think it's either Clarkson or Teague and not Lyon by the way he ended his coaching career at Freo.
Carlton are thinking if Clarkson won't sign this year we will get him next year so we will just keep Teague on another year.
So Teague camp has practically come out and said if I'm coach next year Cripps is gone.
If Clarkson is not going to be coach next year then who in there right mind would come in and be an interim coach for a whole season.
It's very well played by Pickering, Carlton will really be sweating on Clarkson's signature now.

That is really some poetic licence.

Let me try... Teague was just being honest in his presser, didn't throw Cripps "under the bus" and merely critiqued his performance and Pickering was acting as a media commentator, not as a manager.

Bottom line is none of us have a clue.

More creative licence

Teague isn't calling Cripps a liar or stating he should be just hand balling or kicking

It's what the best option should be for the team at any given moment

He’s firstly states ignorance of an injury - fraught given Teague’s own missteps with Cripps and injuries this year. Then claims the lack of kicking hurt the team and - to paraphrase - said it was a ‘leadership’ learning opportunity. In a complete vacuum it could charitably be characterised as clumsy. In the context of Teague’s position and what appears a broken relationship with Cripps it was clearly a parting shot on Teague’s part.

If I could be bothered i’d check Cripps’ kicking stats since he hurt his foot but I have a feeling they were well down since that point.

Throw in Pickering’s tantrum and I’m not sure if there’s any room for doubt on the state play.

The support they wanted was public affirmation of his abilities as a coach - the media were sticking the boot in and he would have liked someone senior from the club to come out and say "Hey, that's not fair, David Teague has our full support and we absolutely believe in him".

But that wasn't going to happen when there was an external review of the football department, was it.

And any half-baked offer of conditional support (ie. "While he is our coach he has our support" or "Until the review findings are handed down he has our support") wouldn't have had the effect Teague wants, and would have only added more fuel to the fire anyway.

Sucks for Teague, but the way to get the media off his back (and conveniently, give him a greater chance of keeping his job) was to find a way to get through to the players and have them perform in the important games that we blew through lack of effort and application.

What does Teague have to gain by losing cripps if he is to continue next year?

Firstly, I don't think Teague has been very open minded about keeping (all the) players onside, and secondly, what are the chances?
Slim.

I was responding to a
Post that seemed to suggest Teague camp had made this play intentionally to lose cripps.

Cripps main weapon is getting in and handballing out to someone free. The last 2 years he has changed and trying to bull his way through packs and take it upon himself to move the ball forward. Teague says Cripps hurt the team by just handballing instead of kicking, seems to me we now know why Cripps changed the last 2 years for the worst, the coach changed Cripps game style for the worst. Another reason he has to go, does not coach to players strengths

You're right non of us have a clue just throwing something different out there

Unlike a lot of people on here I think Cripps is a big part of the problem.
Sam Mitchell was the same at Hawthorn being appointed the captain he thought he was the club and everyone has to be a part of him.
Stripping him of the captaincy bought him back to Earth with a thud.
I think that's what we need to do here with Cripps or get rid of him.
