No offense bp but that's a pretty horrible suggestion.
Why not just have "Why Can't We Be Friends" on a constant loop on the site? After the eleventy millionth time of listening to it, I assume posters will ask themselves "you know what, why can't be friends?" and resolve to be friendlier to each other.
Until the next moronic/controversial/slightly tangential post comes along and destroys any hope we had of a achieving a football forum utopia.

Bears will struggle in the playoffs against New Orleans and Atlanta and will lose this week in Green Bay and I can see them not winning another game for the year after they have the 1st week off in the playoffs. Young unproven QB at the helm and not many threats on offense will find them out IMO!

3 temporary red cards have been handed out tonight. This is just a shot across the bows of the BF Carlton community at large. It is extremely messy with some being pedantic and whiny in order to start arguments, and some being judge, jury and executioner.
It is an eyesore for everybody else.
Those with the appropriate levels of maturity will take it in their stride and take it as the nudge it is supposed to be.

Looks like Bono had it all wrong...nothing quiet about today at all.
Isn't it a touch paranoid to think my post was specifically directed at you? It was a general observation of what I have viewed on this board & of what causes many of the heated arguments/abuse that occurs on this board.
At the end of the day, if you want to believe there is a "boys club" on this board, you are entitled to have such an opinion, but just as you accuse me of "force feeding" you what to think, you are doing exactly the same thing in reverse & then criticising me/my fellow Mods because we do not agree with you.
BTW, it is not our job to edit posts which may be considered to be erroneous. Your suggestion that such posts don't belong on our board really reeks of someone wanting some form of censorship. I think you are living in the wrong part of the world if that is what you are seeking (mind you the Bligh Govt are very good at censoring anything that might portray it in a bad light).
Apparently ODN didn't like what he saw in the Fev thread. Fair enough too - the animosity has been over the top round these parts in recent years. Back in the day we were like a small, cosy village where everybody got along bar the antagonist or two who liked to stir up trouble in our monotonous but otherwise comfortable existence.
We've now evolved into a bustling metropolis where old alliances and friendships hold firm but we brush past those new posters like we would any stranger walking down the street.
It's a sad state of affairs when we as a board society go from a position of being friendly to new posters as we were in our humble beginnings to our current state where we consider every poster to be starchamber, MCB or cp reincarnate.

If I may weigh in on this topic, as a long-term 'apprentice' poster (i.e. entrenched lurker), I am fairly emotionally uninvested.
Moderation -
Hate to be a buttkisser, but I like the moderation on this board. If anything I would almost suggest a slightly more school ma'am-ish approach is warranted sometimes to publicly pull people/slanging into line. Not to point people out or publicly lambast posters, but to let them know you are lurking and to cut the shit. The times it is done I think people respond appropriately.
I don't think any favouritism is shown, but so much moderation goes on behind 'closed doors' I think you can forgive posters for sometimes forming that impression. An inaccurate impression it would appear.
As a PS though, agree with B4F above, I think the board is less wlecoming to newcomers than it once was, but not sure what the remedy is beyond the existing rules in place.
As for the sniping on the board from posters old and new - I think it is discouraging newer posters from participating, but I think it will sort itself out in time. I don't think any particular demographic of posters can be declared innocent of the mud-slinging, especially some of the newer posters, but it would appear we choose to hold long-term posters to a higher standard?
Not sure if we should -it's hard to find the balance between having an interesting diverse board of opinions, and managing the tensions which are certain to ensue.
I think the standards are there for behaviour and are being managed quite well. To use an example, TheGeneral is a poster who generally has an opinion I find interesting. Don't always agree with him and I'm pretty sure we locked horns on a topic once (one of the rare times I post), but he is an example of someone who has quite an acerbic posting style who manages to work within acceptable boundaries (IMO).
You can be headstrong, contrary or divisive without being insulting or rude for the sake of it. People can choose to take it the wrong way but it would be quite a vanilla board without personalities.

Anyway, not telling you anything not already known, but thought I'd share anyway. Happy new year!
